Get Outside is a multi-award-winning landscape architectural practice, specialising in the design of outdoor play and learning environments for and with children and their whānau. The environments we live in hugely impact on the quality of our play and learning experiences, our well-being, and our delight in and connection with the world around us. We believe children and adults of all abilities need the opportunity to explore natural environments and to simultaneously encounter acceptable risk in order to realise their potential and confidently engage with the world.

We collaborate with local authorities, businesses, private clients, iwi and whānau to revitalise and develop new stimulating, nature-rich play gardens and play spaces that support physical activity, play and learning outdoors. All of our designs respond thoughtfully to the unique attributes of a space and the aspirations of local communities in order to achieve the best outcomes for our tamariki and rangatahi. We enjoy designing landscapes for people of all ages to enjoy living and playing in, including residential design. What is good for children, is good for all of us!

Since being established in 2004, Get Outside has worked with play providers and educators to design nearly 400 early childhood and school play environments throughout Aotearoa NZ. Several projects by Get Outside have received special recognition with design awards, including the “Zero Waste Future” Experience Trail at the Waitakere Transfer Station, Rangitoto College Tranquil Garden, the Mt Eden Kindergarten Playspace and the Potter Children’s Garden at the Auckland Botanic Gardens.

We are happy to work at any scale and offer a fully professional landscape architectural service from concept design through detailed documentation to contract management and overseeing the implementation of our plans.
