Creating a modern addition to a heritage style home where the old and the new can make their own independent statements in an exciting and sympathetic manner without conflict is very challenging, and we think Glasshouse did this perfectly, with close attention to materials, textures and design detail.

Glasshouse micro-managed the whole design, approvals and construction process in a highly efficient manner with excellent communication. Keeping the build close to the schedule despite the supply chain issues during COVID lockdowns is testimony to Glasshouse’s excellent organisation and project management skills. All aspects of the design and build were done to a very high standard.

This design and build with Don and the team at Glasshouse Projects was pretty much seamless from beginning to end and the result better than we could have hoped for. We are thrilled with the resolution of old house with new house. From the street frontage, it looks like a beautifully and sensitively renovated old sandstone villa that respects the other heritage houses in the street. From the rear, it is a gorgeous mid-century inspired pavilion. 

 It’s one thing to have great architecture, but for us mere mortals, it also needs to come with respect for, and the ability to interpret, your needs and vision, expert project management, quality builders and tradesmen, and a keen understanding that coming in on budget is very important not just “desirable”. Don and his team at Glasshouse Projects delivered all of this, with commitment and good cheer, despite the ridiculous external challenges COVID19 posed. You could not ask for more! 

Glasshouse Projects designed and managed our recent renovation and we were very happy with both the process and the outcome of the project. We were impressed by the team’s honesty and attention to detail. Our appreciation of the quality of the design and the care that was taken in implementing it has only grown in the year or so following completion. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience than working with Glasshouse for the design and build of an extension to our St Peter’s cottage. The block was fairly small, irregular and sloping, whilst the cottage was dark, with little useable space. Our initial brief, therefore, sounded like an impossible wish list- more open plan indoor space, retain most of the outdoor space, modern, light filled, lots of storage and a pool (and to our budget)! We were so thrilled with the clever design, which not only gave us so much more than we thought possible, but also took advantage of the fall of the land to minimise costs. Watching it come to life throughout the build was captivating. The team at Glasshouse are true professionals- their enthusiasm, attention to detail and communication meant we felt guided and supported. We are astonished at what they have created which suits our active family of 5 perfectly! 

Building with Glasshouse was a process of trust and collaboration. When we originally acquired our block, we thought there was real potential to do something special in a great location, but the outcome has exceeded even our high expectations. We were also attracted to the integrated approach Glasshouse adopts. By having an architect involved in the building design, interiors and construction, the authenticity and vision of the project could be delivered without compromise. There were not multiple parties trying to interpret a vision, just the execution of a single vision. The best compliment we could Glasshouse is to see how our girls have interacted with the space and to show how a built form can enhance the quality of living – to our mind, this is really the essence and purpose of architecture, and the justification for the effort and expense.

I have just completed a wonderful and exciting journey. Don Iannicelli of Glasshouse went far beyond expectations of designing our family beach house at Port Willunga.

What a delightful experience. You hear so many scary stories about building new homes, but not with Glasshouse. It was exciting, yet at the same time Don's commitment to high quality work was very reassuring.
