About us

Glenroy Housing: Where complexity creates stunning simplicity with innovative modern architecture.

Bringing together 50 years of experience building homes in New Zealand and the Glenroy Modular Smart Build System results in the ability to build houses with precision, on-site efficiencies and synergy between client and builder to perfect a house uniquely designed for you.

Glenroy Modular Smart Build System

Glenroy houses are constructed using our a modular post and beam system and when assembled with structural infill panels, are extremely strong while being economical with materials. Our off-site manufacturing ability is at the heart of the Glenroy Modular Smart Build System. Allowing the simplicity of a building process that is time-efficient, cost-effective, adaptable and ensures superior structural integrity.

Pre-Engineered Posts

Pre-engineered posts & beams are developed for each project within millimetre precision, these will provide the main structural integrity of your Glenroy Home. Care by our timber finishing team ensure all surfaces are stained or painted to perfection in your chosen colours.

Fabrication of Panels

Structurally very strong Glenroy MDF Panels form the interior wall linings of the building. Panels are prefabricated with a smooth washable surface that does not dent or chip and eliminates the need for interior stopping or painting.

Glenroy Cladding Systems

Glenroy Interlock Vertical Board and Glenroy Interlock Batten & Board offer the look of continuous lines, custom profile interlocking boards provide strength and durability and the sustainability of NZ pine together deliver a modern, smart solution for cladding your home.

Traditional Batten and Board, using plywood joined with a horizontal flashing and overlayed battens has been used extensively in New Zealand as a cost-effective method of cladding a home. In recent years architects developed a new take on this cladding with the use of random width boards to create vertical interest. This premium look has predominately used imported exotic timbers such as cedar or larch which allowed the ability to achieve continuous clean lines.

  • Made from Sustainable NZ Pine
  • No horizontal flashing required
  • Continuous clean lines
  • Variable board width options
  • Durable with proven performance over 30 years

A proud history

Glenroy Housing, a family-owned business has been designing, manufacturing and constructing houses throughout New Zealand for over 50 years.

The founders of Glenroy started the company with a focus on innovation and developed our modular pre-engineered building system enabling an efficient building technique that results in warm, light and comfortable living.  What Glenroy focused on over 40 years ago is now commonly termed Modular Construction using Structural Infill Panels, with a focus on passive design, and sustainable building.

From our purpose-built 1600sqm factory located near Blenheim in Marlborough, our housing components are pre-engineered so that following construction, no interior finishing is required.

The Company Beginnings

Our Company beginnings and love of sustainable NZ Timber originated with the family sawmill in Raetihi in the 1920s.

Innovation

A natural progression soon led to the development of Glenroy Housing and the development of some of the first prefabricated houses produced in New Zealand. Designed with pre-insulated panels they were well before their time.

First Advertising & Market Expansion

The ability of our prefabricated house components to be easily shipped via container allowed for expansion into the Pacific Islands. Early marketing efforts were straightforward and to the point.

New Factory Premises

It was an exciting day the company expanded into new premises and a new factory in June 1973.

Transportable Prefabricated Houses for the Pacific

In 1993 after a cyclone in the Cook Islands Glenroy sent transportable houses to assist with the rebuild. Two houses were able to be fitted into a standard shipping container.

The development of the Glenroy Batten Clad system ensured a strong and flexible exterior for a cyclone-prone region.
