Landscape Architects
About us
Goom Landscapes craft extraordinary outdoor spaces and experiences—where thoughtful design, strong plant knowledge and quality come together.
We believe the best landscapes reflect the way you live. When your outdoor spaces are carefully designed around your tastes, lifestyle and setting, they add real value to both your home and everyday life. Whether your project is urban or rural, large or small, involving Goom early ensures a cohesive, considered outcome from concept through to completion.
Our team is equally passionate about designing refined outdoor environments in both the city and the country. We focus on achieving the right balance between beauty, function and individuality—creating landscapes that feel effortless, timeless and uniquely yours.
Every Goom landscape is bespoke. It might be a built-in BBQ for entertaining, a private garden retreat, or a family-friendly pool environment designed to be enjoyed year-round. Whatever the brief, our designs are created to draw you outside and invite you to stay awhile.
We also help facilitate the construction process, working closely with a trusted network of suppliers and contractors to ensure clarity, quality and continuity throughout your project.
Planting is a cornerstone of our work. Our dedicated Green Team leads plant design, sourcing, installation and ongoing care, supported by strong relationships with our on-site plant nursery. This allows us to deliver robust, well-considered planting schemes that thrive long-term and elevate the overall design.
At Goom Landscapes, we are always striving to refine our craft and our service. We believe our reputation is built job by job—and we’re committed to delivering outdoor spaces we’re proud to put our name to.
How We Work
We are devoted to providing the perfect balance between beauty, functionality & personalisation for our clients.
Because of this, every step of our process has been put in place to ensure that you receive the highest level of customer service and finished standard on your project.
Goom's Guiding Values
We embrace these values as the embodiment of who we are, what we stand for, & what we aim to achieve in every aspect of thebusiness.
Team Goom.
We achieve the best results through teamwork. The people that make up our team all bring unique strengths & skill sets to the table – from blockies & concrete sealers to stonemasons & arborists. All members of our team were picked because they are excellent at what they do, and are the reason we are able to provide such high standards of workmanship. But it’s not just about us, our clients become part of our team when they work with us. We make sure that they are included from the get-go and that their experience is open, honest & enjoyable. Team Goom means fostering a supportive environment and helping each other out.. except during our social functions throughout the year, like our Quiz night – that’s when things get competitive!
Nothing is Standard.
We aim to challenge the status quo and are always on the lookout for opportunities to make breakthrough innovations in our designs, processes, and the way we build them. We know that one size rarely fits all, which is why we customize the ‘sizing’ of our process for each of our clients. If you are looking for something different, you have come to the right place! We enjoy coming up with designs that wow your socks off, and love the challenge of bringing the impossible to life. For us, nothing is standard unless it’s our Goom standard.
Do it Once, Do it Right.
We’re totally committed to being the best at what we do and never settle for ‘good enough’ when excellence is at stake. Laziness & cutting corners are not part of our culture. Our focus is on accuracy and quality. This means not overlooking simple processes or construction techniques, as we pride ourselves on doing it right the first time. If, however, things don’t go smoothly, we take responsibility for our mistakes & work to fix them. Because we stand behind the work we do.
Be Safe, Not Sorry.
We ensure that safety is built into everything that we do – to make sure all our team members get home safely to their families at the end of the day. This means watching out for each other onsite, removing risks before they can become a hazard, and putting site security in place to protect our clients & the public. We’d rather go the extra mile to ensure safety than be sorry for not having done it because protecting our team is important.
Be Respectful.
One of our top priorities is to create & maintain an environment that cultivates growth & respect. We want every interaction with Goom to be respectful & positive. This includes clients, between workmates, treating equipment & vehicles with respect, and respecting the public as we do our job – by not getting in their way & protecting them from risks.
Work Hard, Celebrate.
There’s nothing better than sharing in the happiness of a satisfied client after we’ve worked hard to smash the goals of their landscaping project. However, it’s also important to enjoy the journey and celebrate the small successes throughout the process. We get right into celebrations here at Goom’s and are known for our team social nights, which include lawn bowls, quiz nights, & ten pin bowls, as well as our birthday morning tea shouts, and our unique internal sign off tradition when we hand over a project – which involves ringing a giant ship bell & deafening half the office.
Invested in Our Future.
We are proud sponsors of the Inspire Foundation – a charity dedicated to supporting our young talent here in Canterbury & Marlborough.

8 simple steps to your new lifespace™
The landscape you surround yourself with should enrich your way of life. Complementing who you are and the lifestyle you lead.
We believe that creating your own unique lifespace™ should be easy. This is why we developed a complete service to take the hassle out of it for you. Our DMC (design, manage, construct) process ensures that your project is finished to an exceptional standard, on time and on budget.
Below is a sample timeline of what you can expect from our DMC process. We imagine and create, while you sit back and enjoy.
1. Onsite Meeting with Tim Goom
To understand what kind of environment you would like to create, we always start with an initial onsite consultation with our director, Tim Goom. This meeting focuses on getting to know more about your site and your needs, so we can work out the best way to help you. After this conversation, if your project sounds like something we can help with, Clare will deliver a design proposal for the scope of work we discussed, this will outline the cost to design and price up your project.
2. Concept Design
Once you have accepted our design proposal we move onto developing the vision for your property. Tim will meet with you again to introduce the Landscape Architect (LA) that you will be working with, then the fun begins. Combining your dreams, preferences and site requirements with our designer’s impressive brains, we draw up a concept design for your ideal lifespace™. The design may include reference images and 3D modeling to give you a feel for what the finished space will look like in relation to your home. Mark our Q.S, then prices this design up to provide you with a clear indication of the cost to build it.
3. Present Design to You
Your designer and project manager meet with you at our office to present your concept design, along with the feasibility budget pricing for its construction. In this meeting, we discuss your thoughts on the design and corresponding pricing and gather feedback. After this meeting, your designer will incorporate your feedback and tweak your design and budget to reflect this. This stage of the design process is very flexible, as we know it can take some back and forth to arrive at a design and construction cost that works for you.
4. Finalise Design
Once you are happy with your concept design and corresponding budget, we then move on to developed design. This is where we define the exact materials, colours and finishes for your project and create a fixed quote for its construction. Your construction date that was penciled in during the concept design stage is then locked in. Behind the scenes, we hold an internal handover to run through your project with the designer, project manager and foreman running your job to determine the most efficient plan of attack.
5. Commence Construction
You are introduced to the foreman that will be running your project, they set up their materials, and get straight into it! Throughout construction, your designer and project manager will regularly check on progress and keep you updated. Other than that, you can just sit back and watch the magic unfold.
6. Planting your Lifespace™
After the hard structures in your lifespace™ are complete, it is planted up to bring your new landscape to life.
7. Lifespace™ Completion
Once your foreman has packed up and cleaned your site, we handover the project to you and celebrate with a beer in your new Lifespace™. The focus of this handover is to run through your feedback – to ensure that you are happy with the completed standard of your project and your overall experience.
8. Maintaining your Lifespace™
To ensure that your lifespace™ reaches its full potential as it grows and matures, we also offer a flexible maintenance service, ranging from weekly to seasonally – depending on your gardens requirements & your needs.
Horticultural consultations
As gardens grow and plants reach the end of their lifespan your planting may need some refreshing.
Getting a fresh pair of eyes to look over your garden can help resolve planting gaps that you have, and provide you with new ideas that can update your landscape.
Our director, Tim, can meet you onsite for a free plant consultation to discuss your garden and any changes that you would like to make. After this conversation with you, if the scope of works is simple we can go straight to quote, or if it requires more design than initially thought, Tim will advise you during the consult, then outline the next steps.
Design as you go
Small works can make a big difference
As well as designing & building landscapes from scratch, we can also help you with smaller projects that will make a big difference to the enjoyment of your garden.
This might be building a retaining wall, laying some artificial turf, adding a bit of decking or creating a planting plan.
If you would like to see how we can help, Tim, our director, can meet you onsite for a free consultation to discuss your requirements. Once we determine the scope for your project & work out the best plan of attack, we can put together a quote for you. Then your transformation begins.
Commercial
Engaging spaces that add value to your development.
We understand that your scope can vary a lot with commercial work – whether you’re a developer that needs help applying for resource consent or an architect that needs a landscape plan to be designed & implemented. We have the design, capabilities to fit any commercial project, and the flexibility to do only what you need.
We enjoy working with bigger teams and consulting on larger scale landscape projects including – residential subdivision design, stormwater management & reserves, early learning centre play areas, sports facilities, staff seating areas for factory’s, and public parks. As well as, working on smaller one-off projects like applying for resource consent, or coordinating your project by administering contracts, dealing with council, and even sorting out final certification.
Previous projects of ours include full design, management & construction of Lyttelton Firestation, designing the masterplan for Highsted Subdivision, including stormwater management reserves, and constructing the landscape at TAIT Technology Centre, which won the best Sustainable Landscape award in 2016.
