Heike Burkhardt Architect

Heike Burkhardt Architect was established in 2007 after many years of working in large international firms in Berlin, London and Hong Kong and later in medium sized firms in Melbourne.

The office was initially operating from the upstairs home office, whilst having a young family. The office as well as the projects grew from there.

In 2016 we moved to a studio space in a warehouse complex featuring large windows and great views for inspiration whilst keeping the interiors raw and industrial.

Heike Burkhardt Architect has been designing many residential extensions and renovations as well as new houses. We have experience with smaller commercial projects including a restaurant, an artist studio and various fit-outs. International projects in the Philippines and Germany are also part of our portfolio.

We are in the process of expanding our office to take on larger projects, however a focus on houses will remain as we thoroughly enjoy working on all aspects of architecture from start to finish and also enjoy working closely with the client.

Our aim is to provide people with good architectural space that is individual and suits their needs. We take on any size of project and provide a personal, relaxed atmosphere during the whole process.

After a thorough briefing we will work on a variety of design options – some according to the brief, some options deviating from the brief based on the opportunities the site and projects offer.

We will then take the drawings through the design development stage, planning permit stage and the documentation stage with frequent meetings with our client.

We aim to follow the original design idea through from the start to the end whilst being flexible and adaptable.

Heike Burkhardt will always incorporate passive energy design principles, address orientation, shading, use of sunlight etc.

The material choices will be responsible and based on beauty, budget and sustainability to provide a long term building with the best environmental outcome.

Heike is also specialized in assessing and detailing building envelopes in a sensible and energy saving way.

Heike Burkhardt offers a one-on-one service with the assistance of proven external consultants and collaborations with other architects for larger projects.

We will try our best to lead clients through the jungle of project management. From the first idea through to the finished house we will make the process transparent and complete stages in a timely manner.

We have been working with clients from all paths of life, some with large budgets, some with small budgets and have also done voluntary work for people with no budget.

Our clients are generally very happy and enjoy working together with an architect in a relaxed environment.
