Impact Design Consultants
Building Designers
About us
July 2000 saw the birth of a relatively small, but progressive design company named Impact Design Consultants.
The inspiration in the mind of the creator was to fill a niche in the market that was, and largely still is, being ignored by other design/drafting organisations …”listening to a client, exploring their design ideas and creating a design that fulfills their needs. At the same time as staying true to the original brief we concluded we also need to commit to delivering relevant, smart designs which were in line with the client budget limitations.
Darren Whelan, a registered Building Designer, and owner/director of Impact Design Consultants, is well and truly qualified to lead his organisation with over 25 years working within the residential design industry.
Before starting Impact Design Consultants, Darren had stints as an employee at a couple of well known giant’s of the housing/design industry. Although extremely grateful for the experience and learning, it was soon evident to Darren that “bigger definitely isn’t always better”, and it was from here he decided to create a better model by incorporating the systems used by the giants but with a flexible, common sense approach. In other words "give the clients what they dream of, and do it consistently every time."
We look to create a design service that involves your participation from start to completion, we rely on honest feedback and open communication to ensure your design process delivers the outcome you desire.
The team that supports Darren is enthusiastic and willing to learn new and creative approaches to design, along with the commitment to provide an exceptional customer service to the clients of Impact Design Consultants.

Services
Feasibility Studies
- Look at client requirements for potential development opportunities in particular a unit development site
- Investigate options to best suit the clients budget requirements and project outcomes
- Prepare a written report to assess the viability of the site for potential development
Conceptual Designs
- Prepare concept plans based upon client brief and/or ideas to better understand the overall design building project.
- Concept plans enable client and designer to “thrash out” design ideas and complexities
- At concept stage we like to investigate building costs so as budgets can be determined early in the design process
3D Visualisations
- 3D visualisations can be created in a black and white image or coloured image
- Existing site utilisation can be adopted to achieve a more realistic site image
Design & Development
- On more complex designs it is required to prepare design and development documents to enable construction details to be clarified and building regulations complied with.
- In particular modern or contemporary designed residences need this type of design work, especially in the more built up areas and inner suburban locations
Planning Applications
- Act on behalf of the client to assist in the planning process
- Prepare initial drawings for statutory planning pre-application meetings
- Report and prepare required documentation for planning submission
- Follow through with planning application process to achieved required client

- The reason we do this is to give clients options and in some cases budgets restrict how much design work can be done to keep within clients financial control
