I enjoyed a wonderful collaboration with Kate Nixon, reimagining the interior of our Federation-style home. Kate has a lovely, classical design sensibility and I loved that she is the elegant representative for the Italian fabric house Busatti, set in the town of Anghiari, Tuscany. She intuitively understands creating a sense of understated luxury and glamour in interiors and has designed beautiful living spaces for our home in a subtle palette which brings in touches of vivid orange. She is aware of my interest in fashion and travel that is part of my background as a former senior editor for Vogue Living and Vogue Entertaining + Travel, which continues on with our family travels. Hence, the informal living area with its bookshelves stacked with books and magazines, creamy white linen Busatti curtains which open to reveal the garden, kitchen adjoining detailed in white carrara marble, and bathroom lined with white mosaic tiles which reference favourite places such as Italy, France and Africa.

Kate has been our interior designer for our house in the Blue Mountains and currently for our house in the city. She has an excellent team working with her, that has transformed both our houses with brilliant solutions to design challenges, stunning furniture selections and beautiful Italian fabrics. Design concepts were clearly presented, as were options for design elements to enable us to easily select the options that suited us best. All the trades employed were competent and professional. We are so happy with Kate’s interior design, combining comfort and style to suit our lives just perfectly, she is a delight to work with, warm, friendly, conscientious, hardworking and super-organised with a style that we just love, we couldn’t recommend her more highly.

There were moments when Kate stands very still and stares intently at nothing in particular. And we grew to know that in that brilliant mind of hers an astonishing solution is being put together. Kate and Roberta listened to our brief and quietly and sensitively went about reimagining and transforming our Spanish Mission home into an elegant masterpiece. All parts of the process from initial design to proposal to delivery were handled smoothly, seamlessly and professionally in a manner involving care, love and restrained emotion to make it a sheer joy for us to have had experienced. There is a timeless sense of elegance and restraint in the home – the design language, colour palette and the playful interplay of classical and contemporary pieces - all are spot on.
