DESIGN

Marton Lee has worked for many years with leading Kitchen Designers and Architects to turn their concepts and designs into real functioning kitchens.

We are respectful of the particular elements of each design and understand that it is the specific details which, when combined, create the unique vision that your professional has developed for you and which will give you your own special kitchen.

We understand that the essence of 'bespoke' is time - time for your design to be developed / time to translate the design into 'working' or 'shop' drawings/time to measure / time to build / time to install - if short cuts are taken at any point in the process then the result is compromised.

It is important to recognize that an Architect's or Interior Designer's kitchen design will always (to a greater or lesser extent) be representational only. It is not fully resolved, which is to say that it cannot be used to build from. There is still a process to bring the ideas to a buildable reality (see Our Process section).

We have the knowledge, experience and tools (both CAD and CAM) to successfully translate your kitchen design into the kitchen of your dreams.

QUALITY BENCHTOPS

A stylish and hardwearing benchtop is an essential part of any successful kitchen.

The overall look of your kitchen is greatly influenced by the appearance of the benchtop and choosing the right material and supplier is very important.

Marton Lee has built kitchens using a wide variety of benchtop materials including solid surface (like Corian), stainless steel, solid wood, concrete and natural stones (granites and marbles) as well as engineered stone. 

Each material offers its own unique aesthetic appeal and has its own functional characteristics. We will help you in choosing the right material, colour and finish by providing samples, images and comparative data; and can arrange for you to full view full size slabs where this is appropriate.

We only source from the most reputable suppliers from whom we have a proven record of supply.

EUROPEAN HARDWARE

The quality and selection of hardware is a key determinant as to how easy and efficient your kitchen is to use and is vital in ensuring a long life. This is an area that should not be compromised and for this reason all the hardware used in your kitchen will be premium European quality. 

All doors and drawers are soft close as standard. Specifically we use:

• Drawers (soft close) - Blum 'Legrabox' or 'Antaro' (standard or with tip-on) or Hettich, Atira or 'Arci-Tech' (standard or with push to open)
• Drawer inserts (stainless steel)  - Blum 'Ambialine', 'Orgaline' or Hettich 'Orgatray/Orgastore' 
• Lift/stay flaps - Blum 'Aventos'
• Bins - Blum or Hettich
• Bi-fold doors - Hettich 'Wingline'
• Under-bench pull-out - Blum
• Pantry - Blum 'Space Tower'
• Hinges (soft close) - Blum 'Inserta blu-motion' or Hettich 'Sensys'
• Sliding doors - Hettich 'Topline or Inline' or Hafele "hawa', 'Eku, or 'Slido'.

BEST PRACTICE

We believe that the best practice is an ever evolving concept. This means that the way we build our kitchens and the products and materials we use are constantly improving. An excellent example of this is the way in which Marton Lee have approached the issue of potential water damage to the cabinetry.

We were one of the very first to use a plywood substrate for the sink cabinetry (or indeed all the carcass cabinetry where this is preferred) in recognition of its superior water-resistant qualities compared to the MDF or particleboard used by others

Marton Lee builds cabinetry and built-in furniture for all rooms in the house and we are often involved with supplying a whole house-lot of cabinetry.

The advantages are obvious where one company takes care of all the cabinetry needs (Not just the kitchen while someone else looks after the bathrooms and someone else looks after... the rest)

We are of course, equally happy to build cabinetry for a single room - be it laundry, bathroom, living, library, pool-room, garage, study, children's or any other.

We can build based on drawings from your Architect or Interior Designer or we can provide our own design service. We can also build based on your own 'design' but bear in mind that there will almost certainly be additional time required to translate your 'design' into something that can be built and there will be a cost associated with this.

BATHROOM

With the emphasis on 'wellness' and the idea of 'sanctuary', there has been a growing call for unique, quality bathroom cabinetry. Marton Lee makes vanities, mirror cabinets and other storage units that combine functionality and design flair which can either discreetly compliment or be the centre-piece.

LIVING

Display cabinets, wall units, shelving, entertainment cabinets (TV and multimedia) and occasional tables (coffee and side tables) are among the range of cabinetry Marton Lee make for living and family spaces.

STUDY / LIBRARY / HALL

Desks, bookcases, hall tables and display units are among the range of pieces that Marton Lee have built - each in their own style, configuration and size.

HOME OFFICE

With an increasing number of people wanting to work part-time or full-time from home, the demand for functional yet stylish furniture has grown. Marton Lee has responded to this by building furniture and cabinetry that is practical and yet also fits comfortably into a residential environment.

LAUNDRY

Historically the 'washhouse' was all about basic function but now is very much seen as a room that should maintain the style and feel of the rest of the house whilst remaining practical to use and to clean.

BEDROOM

Walk-in wardrobes (as well as the traditional alcove style) are an important part of many new home/renovation projects. Marton Lee understands that they are an important adjunct to the master suite which require imaginative design together with a complementary finish and style.

Bed heads, bedside tables and dressing tables are other bespoke furniture options.

CHILDREN

Marton Lee make bunks, storage units, tables, desks and shelving specifically designed for kid's rooms.

We believe that giving you a clear understanding of the process is vital to ensure that your project runs smoothly and is headache-free. We want you to know exactly what to expect in terms of timeframes, processes and responsibilities.

Initial contact

After receiving your contact, we will arrange a preliminary consultation (approx. 1 hour). 

This is free of charge and carries no obligation on your part. This is usually done in our showroom.

We use this to 'scope' your project, introduce material/hardware options, explain our processes,

let you see the quality of our workmanship and to agree on the next step.

This is, of course, an ideal opportunity for you to evaluate us and decide if you want to proceed further.

​DESIGN & QUOTE

We are happy to work with your kitchen design (from your architect or interior designer) or to develop a kitchen design for you. The process and associated costs will differ depending on which route you take.

1. If you would like us to undertake the design of your kitchen, one of our experienced designers will work with you to develop a fully resolved design that works both functionally and aesthetically (this includes drawings detailing the floor plan, and dimensioned elevations. This will typically take 18-20 hours of our designer's time. A deposit of $750 is payable at the beginning of the process with a further $950 payable once the design work is completed and you have been presented with a full set of drawings and the associated specification sheet and quotation. However, the payment of $950 will be waived in the event you decide to proceed with us for the manufacture of your kitchen.

2. If you have a fully resolved design from a professional practitioner, we will provide a quotation based on this (at no charge). If you wish to consider other options related to the details of the design and our design input is required, there will be a cost: this is charged at $85/hour +GST. 

MANUFACTURE & INSTALL

Manufacture

• All manufacturing takes place at our Glenfield premises. This includes any finishing (painting, staining, clear coating) required which is done in our own on-site paint-shop.
• You are welcome to view your assembled kitchen cabinetry prior to it being put into the paint-shop.

Delivery

• Delivery to site is by a specialist furniture/cabinetry delivery company arranged by Marton Lee.

Installation of Cabinetry

• Cabinetry installation is by our own specialist installers (either staff or sub-contractors). It will typically take 2-4 days plus possible later visit/s to fit the toe-kicks and any other cabinetry that cannot be fitted until after other trades (e.g. floorers, plumbers) have completed their work.
• Installation includes placing the appliances into position - actual installation/connection is done by the plumber, electrician or specialist installer (e.g. range hood) and this is organized by you/your builder.

Installation of Benchtop & Splashback  

• Following cabinetry installation, the Benchtop is templated then is fabricated and installed (you or your builder can arrange for Final fix plumbing of the sink at this point).
• Following the benchtop install, the splash-back can be measured (if stone, glass or 'panel') or tiling can be done (if this is the splash-back).

TYPICAL TIMEFRAME

Week 1:  Site measure (ideally this is done after the walls are lined, the ceiling fitted and the floor down but can be done earlier subject to agreement with the builder - though NEVER before walls are framed and ceiling/floor is defined)

Weeks 2-3:  'Shop drawings' are produced, reviewed by client and 'specifier' (builder/architect/interior designer) and any amendments required made. Followed by final 'sign-off' at which point the 'shop drawings' supersede any other drawings/specifications and are the sole document upon which manufacture is based.  Any appliances requested (typically dish-washer, hob, and any integrated items) will need to be delivered to Marton Lee premises.

Week 4:  Manufacture begins.

​Week 8:  Manufacture and finishing (painting) are complete.

​Week 9:  Install of cabinetry and template of bench-tops is done.

​Week 11:  Bench-tops installed / splash-back template is done.

Week 13:  Splash-back installed / job completed.

N.B.  Timeframes can vary depending on circumstances (availability of sub-contractors etc)
