MetWood is manufactured in New Zealand by Auckland’s foremost Business-to-Business powder coaters; the Powder Coating Group.

We are partenered with leading suppliers from around the world: our powders are sourced from Akzo Nobel - the world's largest supplier of powder coating materials, and our films are sourced exclusively from accredited Italian suppliers.

Having provided expert powder coating services across New Zealand for over 30 years, we wanted to expand our range of finishes to include woodgrains. 

Initially investing in one of the fastest batch sublimation machines in NZ, we became capable of sublimating a wide range of different sized and shaped aluminium panels and extrusions.

With demand growing for woodgrain finishes, we installed the world's fastest sublimation machine in February 2021.

MetWood offers the NZ market an extensive range of premium sublimated woodgrain finishes, with a turnaround of just 7 working days.

The sublimation process:

1. A photographic image is printed onto a film using sublimation inks
2. The film is wrapped around an item coated in a specially formulated powder coating
3. A vacuum is applied to hold the film in close contact with the powder coating
4. In a high temperature oven, the image is lifted from the film and transferred INTO the depth of the powder coating layer (a process called sublimation).
5. The film is then removed.

The overall finish is a result of the combination of the powder-coat base colour, and the pattern and colours of the sublimated image. Both of these can be mixed & matched to produce a wide range of patterns and colours to meet most requirements. We use photographic images of actual timbers, concretes, etc, which make our finishes incredibly natural-looking and realistic, and we have hundreds of finishes available.

However, this doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to our range! We can work with you to produce almost unlimited finishes using high-resolution photographic images of practically anything you like. Of course there’s a nominal tooling cost involved for bespoke finishes, but your imagination really is the only limit, and we’d love to hear your ideas.

This means we are able to offer warranties from these suppliers. We coat using the world’s leading powders from Dulux, PPG & Interpon.
