We carry out all types of maintenance and refurbishing work, from minor improvements to extreme and complete renovations, room layouts and additions.

We are experienced at building garages, sleepouts, home extensions and are happy to undertake renovations on rental or retail properties.

Remember if you are doing work that requires a Building consent it must be carried out by a Dept. of Building LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner)

Historic Home Restoration

If you live in a character or historic home you will probably want to keep it as authentic as you can but with the additional comforts of modern day living.
It can be difficult to find a builder who will improve and repair your property with an eye sympathetic to the existing temperament of your building.

At Mustard Construction our aim is to complete all exterior and interior work according to your needs, whilst still maintaining the look and feel of your character property.

Mustard Construction Limited is owned and run by David Bircham, a fully qualified Carpenter and Joiner with over 30 years experience in the building industry both here in New Zealand and in the UK and Europe.

Our employees are highly motivated, skilled, qualified and conversant with the NZ building code.

Architectural Design

We are happy to quote for the construction of your new home, whether it be contemporary or traditional in style, from existing plans drawn by an architect or designer. Please make sure they are Licensed Building Practitioners holding at least a Design 1 Licence.

If you have created your own sketches you can make use of our design services to create comprehensive construction drawings that meet Council Consent.

Have some old plans or photographs? Talk to us we can help make them a reality.

In addition to our custom home design service we are offering a selection of already designed homes for you to choose from.

We have purchased over 100 house plans and are making them compliant with the New Zealand building code.

Dept of Building LBP: Designer

From 1 March 2012 critical building work that is known as Restricted Building Work, must be done by an LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner) This includes design work. We hold a Design 1 licence and carry out Design work on Cat. 1 & 2 Buildings. Click the DBH link for full details of the LBP scheme and what it means for you as a client.

We can prepare your plans and Building Consent application and submit to council for Building consent. If you need a Resource consent we can take care of that also.

We hold licences in Design, Site and Carpentry so are able to carry out the entire process of your new build, from start to finish including the design, the site and project management and the construction work.

Mustard Construction Limited specialise in the design and construction of new character & heritage homes. We love old buildings, but it is not always possible to save them, so we build new versions which have all the character and authenticity of the period but with the construction techniques and comforts of the 21st century.

PROFILE David Bircham is a Qualified Carpenter & Joiner and also a licensed Architectural Designer based in Dunedin, Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. He is a professional member of ADNZ (Architectural Designers New Zealand) and the Director of Mustard Construction.

We manufacture both bespoke and ready made assembled kitchens in our joinery workshop in Dunedin. We specialise in a hand painted finish, which is ideal for heritage and historic properties that require an upgrade in kitchen facilities, layout and appliances, but demand detailed attention to retain their character.

We are also happy to design and build a contemporary kitchen to compliment or contrast the era of your home. All finishes and styles are possible.
