Not only did he understand our needs but he ensured that every change was worth doing, that a design did not just hope to add character to the house or became some stand-alone feature with no purpose, he ensured that every design also had a practical reality to it - whether this was improving window placement or style to gain more of the outdoors, getting more storage out of a space, designing a stronger layout or simply providing a better flow room to room than we had thought of - all of this culminated in making the actual living in the house, post-renovation, even more enjoyable. 

Adam was also conscious of our budget as unfortunately we had to rework the design a couple of times due to budgetary and external constraints and Adam not only understood this, he worked expertly with our Project Manager to keep the costs down to stay working within our tight budget. I will also say our Project Manager loved the level of detail and competence Adam provided in the building plans themselves, this made his side a lot easier and more efficient and also helped us again with managing the renovation within a budget by minimising errors or misinterpretations. We would have no hesitation in recommending Adam again and look forward to working with him again.

I recently worked with Adam Neate on a house move and a comprehensive internal, external renovation in Grey Lynn. He was recommended to me by another respected builder in the same line of work.
He worked with myself and the client from start through to completion and was very easy to deal with in every respect. His vision on what we wanted went exceptionally well. If I had any queries they were dealt with on the spot and he always returned my missed calls promptly.
I have worked with many Auckland architects in my career including some of the biggest in Auckland but found Adam to be one of the most down to earth and user friendly architects I have come across.

I confirm that I engaged Neate Architecture in 2012 for design of a substantial villa extension project. Work involved concept designs, detailed architectural construction drawings, acquiring resource and building consents, and liaising with the builder/project manager when necessary to resolve unforeseen issues. All work was completed on a timely basis and at very reasonable costs. Their design provided a modern house layout that encompassed the existing villa structure and integrated original features throughout the 98 m2 extension. The detailed drawings were very comprehensive and few unforeseen issues were encountered. When unforeseen issues did happen they were resolved in a very quick professional manner, for example volcanic rock made it extremely difficult for the builders to dig the necessary holes for the new piles; this was resolved quickly by Neate Architecture liaising with the Council and obtaining approval for a shorter braced piling system. The project has been completed and the layout has provided a stunning villa where a close eye is required to distinguish between the old and new areas of the house.

I have used Neate Architecture on 2 separate occasions and certainly would not hesitate to use their professional services again. One job was a renovation and the other was a new house. On both occasions I have found their service levels 2nd to none and their attention to detail and the clients needs was also top notch. 1) Design - Neate architecture have a flair for design that gives you a house that works - what I really like is Neate listen to your needs and suggest ways to achieve these within budget. They don't go off on a tangent and create elaborate designs that blow out the budget....... its difficult to find someone that delivers what you want - rather than what they want.
2) Construction - Invariably there are on going questions during the job from other tradesmen etc - Neate always get back to you within a timely manner than allows the job to continue un interrupted. This is the point where you really appreciate what Neate have spec'd - rather than just drawing a building, they draw a building in a cost effective manner so the construction can be done at the lowest possible cost.
3) Compliance - Adam and his team have an excellent grasp on the building code and legislation - I have had instances where council has said items were not within the code and Adam has found ways to prove to council that what I was doing was within the code - they certainly think outside the square in making items fit within the building code which ultimately saves a lot of money.
