Profile
Founded in 1996 when owner Glenn Munro set out to put his name on what he saw as an underperforming industry. Glenn has grouped together a team of 14 renderers with over 90% being trained in-house to Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) PPCS tradesmen level.
We have systems in place that constantly sees Properly Plastered Limited set new standards of both quality and professionalism in our industry. The fact that we are New Zealand's most awarded exterior render cladding company proves this year after year.
Post the Canterbury earthquake sequence Properly Plastered Limited grew to become New Zealand's largest purchaser of Resene Construction Systems Products. Peaking at 30 staff and a network of subcontractors we proved we are very capable of managing large numbers of staff and a very high volume of work.
During this period, we took up the challenge of making our site safety systems far better than they had ever been with several of our staff having extensive training through Site Safe. We run our own SSSP on each site and Properly Plastered Limited has also recently gained a Site Wise green level rating with an 87% pass mark.
These days Glenn has been joined by wife Rebecca in running Properly Plastered Limited and together with their team, they remain very proud to provide their clients with beautiful render finishes. We have right-sized our business back down with a core group of best performing staff to suit the new Canterbury work environment and value the strong relationships we have forged with several of the Canterbury regions best builders during our 20+ years in business.
People
Glenn Munro, Christchurch
After growing up on a high-country station above the Rakaia Gorge Glenn was keen for an outside career that kept his body fit and my mind active. Glenn started in this industry at age 18. By 20 he thought he had enough knowledge to set up my own business. This was the start of what became PPL.
This was prior to the BCITO setting up our PPCS trade and smack bang in the middle of the dark days of the NZ weather tight homes crisis. Working through this period has given Glenn an unrivalled knowledge of how to, and more importantly how not to build a leaky building. I was at the forefront of our trade becoming one of the first group of exterior plasterers to gain a PPCS qualification in nz. These days he sits on the BCITO national advisory group that sets the standards and criteria for new apprentices coming through our industry.
Glenn is also very proud to be at the front of another huge shift in thinking in the plastering industry gaining his NZQA certificate of construction saftey. His current roles at PPL are customer liaising, job scoping, plan pricing, job scheduling, team captain-mentor, material orderer, delivery boy, computer operator, problem solver and the list goes on.....
When Glenn is not at work you'll find him hanging out with his wife and three kids at the lake, or somewhere in the hills racing my dirt bike.
Rebecca Munro, Christchurch
Rebbeca has been here since the beginning alongside Glenn in the day to day running of Properly Plastered Limited. She is the one in control of all the office work that tradies don’t like doing. When Rebecca is not solving Properly Plastered Limited's issues she is pretty much a full-time taxi driver for their 3 kids.
Ian McKay
Ian is the original!
Ian has been employed here at Properly Plastered Limited since the age of 16 which in 2018 will mean he has spent 20 years learning and plying his trade alongside at Properly Plastered Limited. Ian is in control of one of the Properly Plastered Limited teams and what he doesn’t know about the trade isn’t really worth knowing. Ian’s speciality is high-end architectural projects.
Justin Berkett
Like Ian, Justin has been here since the very early days. In fact, he started while he was still at school regularly working for us during school holidays. He eventually graduated to being here “stuck” full-time and has never looked back.
Justin is another of our good family men here and has some amazing projects under his belt during his time with Properly Plastered Limited.
Paul Cawood
Paul is our only foreman not initially trained here at Properly Plastered Limited, once here he has thrived with the opportunity to match the quality of our other foreman. You will find Paul in charge of a team of talented boys with his work regularly featuring in the annual RCS awards.
Like Ian and Justin, Paul is another of our great family men who spend their weekends completing their recently built new homes.
Nathan Cavanagh
Nate is another of our foreman who started here at a young age. Despite being at Properly Plastered Limited for 8 years he is our newest foreman. After leaving and returning to Christchurch after the earthquakes he completed his PPCS trade with Properly Plastered Limited and has a real thirst for knowledge that he is now sharing with our latest Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) apprentice. When not here Nate will more than likely have his head under the bonnet of a car restoration, currently an HQ Holden.
