Our Approach

Scott Construction has a robust project management system and refined project controls that consistently deliver quality outcomes in accordance with client requirements. This system is backed by cloud-based construction management software Procore. Our team is continuously striving to improve and is well practiced at adapting systems and procedures according to client requirements.

Scott Construction is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, visitors, contractors and clients. We maintain a number of robust ‘pre-qualifications’ and accreditations including Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council, ISN, IMPAC and Site Safe; meaning that our framework for managing Health & Safety is constantly undergoing review and improvement.

With Construction and Demolition waste making up 40-50% of New Zealand’s landfill, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. One of the biggest impacts we can have as a construction contractor is to minimise waste; we are achieving this through strong partnerships with local waste management contractors and a range of supporting initiatives including site-specific waste management plans, staff and subcontractor education, design collaboration and procurement policies. A number of our staff are Greenstar Accredited.

Our legacy company, Kidson Construction has undertaken a large number of civil engineering projects over the last 50 years, covering a variety of works including bridges, water and wastewater, energy, marine, industrial and general infrastructure projects. We also undertake a range of design and construction projects within this sector.

Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and Design-Build Projects

As an experienced Design-Build and ECI Contractor, we have proven time and time again that early collaboration between the Client, Architect, building contractor and specialised sub-trades has many benefits. We have a large team with a diverse skill set and their knowledge and breadth of experience is integral to the success of our Design-Build and ECI Projects. 

Maintenance & Repairs

Regular maintenance is essential to your building’s ongoing operation, safety and value. We have a team of licensed building practitioners dedicated to the highest standard of property and asset maintenance. The team also offers a range of specialist building services for large and small scale repair projects. We also offer full maintenance service following completion of our new build projects.

Seismic Strengthening

We have strengthened infrastructure such as bridges and reservoirs, commercial buildings including offices and retail outlets, and a range of residential properties. We have also worked with local government organisations to strengthen institutional properties such as heritage buildings and council facilities.

Proficiently using a variety of techniques to upgrade the seismic performance of a range of structures, we are often called upon to work with clients and their engineers during the initial investigation and exploratory work to assess a building’s current strength, before design commences. We also work with engineers to develop workable and practical solutions tailor-made for each building, ensuring a cost effective solution with as little disruption as possible.

Seismic strengthening projects require great flexibility and a range of specialist skills. Our Civil Construction and Structural Steel divisions complement our construction divisions, so we can offer a well-rounded service to our clients.

Structural Steel

We manufacture and install structural steel components from our workshop. Steel is cut, drilled and welded into transportable components and then transported and erected on site by our team of engineers. Our structural steel projects cover a wide range from residential and commercial to industrial and civil. We have particular expertise in seismic strengthening of buildings and infrastructure and work with designers and engineers to find a pragmatic solution to seismic strengthening. We also undertake maintenance and repair steel work. This can be done at our workshop or by one of our mobile teams.

Precast Concrete

At our Nelson facility we manufacture precast concrete products. We operate a heated concrete bed, as well as a steel bed, for high-quality architectural finishes. Our bed also has rolling covers so we can produce panels in a controlled environment, regardless of the weather.
