An innovative and highly sought-after landscape designer, Suzanne established Suzanne Turley Landscapes in 1995 after a successful career in fashion where she developed a strong sensibility for colours, proportions and textures.

Working on prestigious properties internationally and throughout New Zealand, Suzanne collaborates with top architects and interior designers, achieving seamless design integration of outdoor and indoor spaces.

Suzanne’s natural ability and evolving style allows her to reinvent classics using a contemporary and fluid design language. Her inspiration comes from her love for classic elegance based on balance and proportion, combined with a passion for soft, native landscaping. She applies vision, experience and the highest standards to achieve immaculate results for her clients.   

Ermanno Cattaneo

Ermanno is an Italian landscape architect who brings European design flair and expertise to the design studio. A registered Landscape Architect with the Italian Association of Landscape Architecture, Ermanno manages the integrity and quality of design for every project.

Ermanno joined Suzanne Turley Landscapes in 2011 after working with the Italian Studio Architettura Paesaggio, designing a variety of private, public and commercial spaces around northern Italy. He has a Master of Science in Architecture degree specialising in landscape restoration from the Politecnico of Milan. 

Irene Kang

Irene holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Landscape Architecture and had worked in Beijing on a wide range of residential projects before moving from China to New Zealand and joining Suzanne Turley Landscapes in 2017.

Irene is a creative thinker in concept design and a detail-oriented problem solver in development and construction design. Very passionate about landscape architecture she delivers landscape design with high quality and thoughtful solutions.

Landscape design and build

From concept through to delivery, we offer an end-to-end landscape design and installation service for new builds and major renovations.

We work closely with you and your architects to develop a vision for your property from the start of the design process, right through planning and consent. Our involvement early in the project ensures a seamless integration between your building project and landscape design.

Our design services include presentation drawings and construction specifications for tender or build. We incorporate all aspects of hard and softscape design, including plants, lighting, water features, retaining walls, outdoor furniture, pools, pergolas and fences.

In Auckland, our team will source and install the planting, and project manage the installation of all other aspects of the design.

For projects outside Auckland and overseas we offer coordination and supervision using local landscapers selected by you or by us.

Garden renovations

Our garden renovation service revamps an existing garden by focusing on key elements and planting.

We will develop a garden design with you that enhances the best of your property’s existing features and adds new life to your outdoor space.

Where needed, we work with selected landscape building contractors to incorporate elements such as new pathways, steps, water features and lighting to transform your property.

From concept design through to planting, we will project manage your garden renovation to ensure it is finished to the highest standard and reflects our design vision.

NZILA Awards Category Winner 2019

During the Awards dinner that was held on Friday night 8th November at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū our ‘Garden at the Hills’ was awarded NZILA Category winner / Residential Single Dwelling — 2019.

NZILA Awards Judges Citation:

The Garden at the Hills is a boldly designed and beautifully executed New Zealand garden. A series of curated garden and entertainment spaces have been skillfully sited around the house culminating in a mix of both intimate private garden rooms and other areas that open up and engage with the surrounding landscape. This use of engagement skillfully brings the mountains in as part of the garden experience.

Carefully crafted earthworks and hard landscaping underpin the design and have seamlessly blended the garden in with the surrounding landscape. Bold organic, curving forms contrast but sit comfortably alongside the modern architecture and swimming pool.

The landforms are clothed with an exceptional planting design which is a showcase for how the ‘New Perennial’ movement in planting garden can be executed here in New Zealand. Bold drifts of herbaceous perennials, ornamental grasses, and natives supported by clipped hedging and specimen trees provide year round colour, movement and structure. There is evidence of careful seasonal planting and as such, one feels in this garden that no day would feel the same, with the planting in constant evolution throughout the year. Each season in the garden has its own moment and its own feeling.

With immaculate execution and superb ongoing maintenance and development the Garden at the Hills is a significant benchmark in contemporary New Zealand residential garden design and is a clear category winner.
