TD Structures

TD Structures is an Auckland-based structural engineering practice with over 30 years of experience delivering high-quality design across the full spectrum of building types — from simple timber decks and residential alterations through to high-end architectural homes, multi-unit developments, commercial buildings and large industrial warehouses.

Founded in 1993 by Steve Thorne and Steve Dwyer, the practice has built its reputation on a belief that good engineering should enable great design rather than constrain it. Current directors Guy Wood and Damian Linehan, who took over in 2017/18 and renamed the practice TD Structures in 2020, continue to lead with that same philosophy.

Whether we're designing long clear spans for an industrial warehouse, finding the most efficient structural solution for a multi-storey commercial building, or working through the details of a high-end home or multi-unit development, our focus is always on getting the most from every material — reducing construction costs and complexity rather than simply satisfying the brief.

Structural engineering is often treated as just another cost in the design process — something to be minimised rather than invested in. But the structural design has a direct bearing on what gets built and what it costs to build it. We're not interested in overdesigning things. We push the limits of what materials can do, sweat the details, and look for the most efficient solution rather than the safest margin. That approach consistently delivers real savings on site, often many times the cost of the engineering fee itself.

Our team of experienced engineers and Revit technicians has capability across the full range of construction materials — concrete, steel, timber, masonry and engineered wood products — as well as seismic analysis, construction monitoring and the resolution of on-site issues as they arise. Our clients deal directly with the engineer responsible for their project, from first conversation to final sign-off.
