Templeton Construction has stringent quality processes in place and use only the highest quality sub-contractors that share our values; many of which we have long-term working relationships with.
Health and safety obligations of our employees, sub-contractors and site visitors have always been of utmost importance to us, to the point where we initiate comprehensive systems and procedures to keep everyone on board safe.
Step 1
Initial Contact
Our first step involves a response to your enquiry, we discuss your wants and needs to ensure we can provide you the service you require. This is the first opportunity for you to tell us about your project, and for us to ask you some detailed questions so we can get a good understanding of what you want to achieve. We can then book you in for your free consultation.
Step 2
Meet On-site
You will meet us on the building site discuss your ideas and visions. This allows time for us to work through a step by step plan to turn your dreams into reality. This will include timeframes, council consents, budgeting, project management, materials, and the level of investment you want to make so we understand your budget expectations from start to finish. Bring along your ideas, plans, sketches and magazines to help the architects turn your dream into reality!
Step 3
The Consent Process
The consents you may need will be discussed and a reputable architect will take the application(s) to the council approval stage. During this time, we can discuss project management, as well as everyone’s role in the process to help familiarise yourself with the team.
Step 4
Plans, Concept & Drawings
This is one of the most important stages. You can either use your existing plans or you can choose from a fantastic selection of our own architecturally designed plans. With the help of a designer, you can discuss and rework any ideas or potential changes that may evolve throughout the journey.
Step 5
Quoting
Once you are happy with your drawings and documents from the architect, you will be provided with a detailed quote, as well as an estimate for any changes you had in mind. We will present this to you explaining every part in detail and answering any queries you may have. At this stage, you will be provided with a job schedule with start and completion dates.
Step 6
Signing Documentation
You will be provided with a New Zealand Certified Builders contract as well as a copy of our Halo 10 Year Guarantee. Once you sign the contract and get all the drawings approved by the local authority, the project can finally start!
Step 7
The Build Begins!
We will be communicating with you, your architect and our sub-contractors on a regular basis, making sure your project is flowing in a timely and coordinated manner.
The job schedule will be updated on a regular basis and will be available so that you are well informed of the progress. Photography documenting the project process will be shared with you through email on a regular basis. We will also have a health and safety site plan operating.
Step 8
Completion
It is our responsibility during the final code of compliance inspection to ensure all documentation required by your local building authority is presented to the building inspector. You can walk through and around your home to make sure you are 100% satisfied with the standard of workmanship.
Your beautiful new home will be sparkling as we will provide a complimentary clean on completion. You will receive your new home ready for you to move in and start enjoying.
We will be very happy to hand over the keys, as well as a welcoming gift pack to show how much we appreciate you choosing us
FAQs
At What Stage Do I Involve a Builder?
It always pays to get your builder involved early. Simple advice from a Certified Builder when making critical decisions like choosing a section, architectural style, plans and building materials can save a lot of hassle later on.
Do I Need A Building Consent?
If you are carrying out building work you may need to apply for building consent.
Here are some examples of work that requires consent:
- Any structural building including new buildings, additions, alterations, accessory buildings (sheds), and re-piling
- Plumbing and drainage
- Heating (fireplaces), ventilation and air conditioning systems
- Siteworks for a building
- Retaining walls higher than 1.5 metres, or retaining walls with a building or driveway near the top
- Fences higher than 2.5 metres and any swimming pool fence
- Swimming pools
- Decks more than 1.5 metres from ground level
If in doubt we recommend you ring your local Council and discuss your project with them.
Do I Get A Guarantee?
Yes you do!
The full Homefirst 10-year Builders Guarantee will cover you for:
- Loss of deposit
- Non-completion of the dwelling
- Structural defects for 10 years
- Non-structural defects for 2 years
- Alternative accommodation
How Can I Keep My Building Project Within My Budget?
We recommend entering into a full building contract which will enable you to know exactly what the cost will be and what you will get.
Can I make changes during the building project?
We welcome you to make any changes you would like to enhance your home. Any requests by yourselves incurring extra labour and/or material costs will be treated as a variation to the contract. All variations will be costed and presented to you for approval authorising the builder to carry out these changes before any such works can be started.

Meet the Directors
BEN TEMPLETON DIRECTOR | PROJECT MANAGER
Building runs in the Templeton family, my Grandfather was a builder and as a young man growing up on the family farm I aspired to be just like him. I gained my qualification in 2006 and wasted no time developing Templeton Construction the following year. Seeing my name representing the quality workmanship my Grandfather stood for was a life goal of mine.
I find joy in working alongside the owners and helping to achieve their goals, whether it be a new home or renovation. I’ve always believed that respect, honesty, responsibility, and good work ethic are the foundations of a smooth sailing building project.
When I’m not working or spending time with my young family, you will find me unwinding on the golf course, down at the lake water skiing or training for another multi-sport event such as the Coast to Coast.
I’ve always had a passion for property development and built my first new home at 25 years of age. I love to tackle new challenges and trial new designs which is evident in the design of the 3 homes I have now completed for my family.
GEMMA TEMPLETONCO-OWNER | MARKETING & ADMINISTRATION
As Co-Owner I enjoy being part of the process of helping people turn their plans and dreams into reality. I am the middle child of five, with four brothers. Our parents were very hard workers and instilled their traits into the family, all have gone into professional roles. I enjoy working alongside Ben in our family owned business.
Ben and I have made the decision to have our family young and do the hard yards now, focusing on growing our family and business. My role has mainly consisted of administration and marketing, however I really enjoy being involved with our clients and assisting where possible. As our company has grown I have taken on more of the marketing role and have an employed an administrator. As our children become more independent I can see my role increasing.
We are excited about the direction Templeton Construction is heading and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your needs for your next project.
