Without a doubt, stone work is the most rewarding and satisfying area of expertise that we work in, with no two jobs being or looking the same. Mike and Andy have done a number of Alexandra Schist feature walls on many houses around Christchurch with one, in particular, that was a feature in the 2018 house of the year winner.

The house also included a 20 meter long natural Christchurch volcanic stone retaining wall stretching the length of the driveway. We also do a lot of work using local Halswell stone which can be used in a number of ways from steps, columns, paving and patios.

All of our stone work is shaped all by hand on site by Mike and Andy themselves which takes time, but this is where we love to show our skills, patience and expertise, which most guys in the trade fail to have.

We have also completed a number of Oamaru stone houses around Christchurch which have completed and taken multiple “House of the Year” awards!

If you would like a couple of Oamaru columns at your front gate to make a grand entrance we can also do that.

All our Oamaru stone is sourced from Parkside quarry down south from Oamaru and gets transported by truck to Christchurch. Alexandra has a number of quarries down south all producing different colors of stone. We select a quarry based on the client’s vision. All Alexandra shist is transported to Christchurch by truck to location.

We can also provide a light weight brick cladding called The brick slip system. This system gives the illusion of being bricks and mortar but really the bricks are cut down to 20 millimeter slips and glued to a water proof membrane, providing a very light weight brick cladding.

Most of the repair work has been earthquake related, but if your son or daughter has “accidently” hit your brick fence or letterbox, we will be happy to assist!

Because of the Christchurch earthquake, we have done many grind and repoints which involves grinding out the cracked joints in the brick or block and then we fill the joints back up again with grout.

If we feel the damage is a bit more severe we can use the Helifix remedial product which involves a special two-part mix grout which you use to smother around a specially designed stainless steel bar in your cracked bricks or blocks. This provides substantial tensile properties to masonry when bonded with Helibond grout, which is able to lock tight between the fins and to the masonry.

If we feel your work is beyond repair then we can provide a total re-clad and rebrick your whole house.

The specialist team of two, Mike and Andy, have more than 50 years of experience between them in the masonry trade, and have worked on a number of restoration jobs from doing full block re-clads on 1950’s Warren and Mahoney housing to rebuilding a 100 year old brick feature fire surround.

Mike has also done a number of stone repair on some of New Zealand’s oldest and beutiful churches which requires patience and skills that most guys in the trade fail to have. We believe that when it comes to heritage work, only the best job is acceptable. So if we can’t repair your brick, block or stone work we can fully rebuild it.
