How long do bathroom installations take?

In New Zealand, the time it takes to install a washroom depends entirely on the size of the room. A small guest washroom consisting of a toilet and basin will go much faster than a master en-suite with double sinks and a bath, shower and toilet. A complete residential bathroom replacement and installation can take up to two weeks to remove any existing fixtures, prep the space, move any plumbing, install new fixtures and fittings and finish off with tiling and painting.

Do you need consent for a bathroom?

In New Zealand, you only require consent if you’ll be making structural or plumbing changes. If you are remodelling an existing bathroom where all the plumbing, electrical outlets and walls are already present, you do not need consent.

You may start experiencing issues such as leaking, rusting and other signs of wear and tear. This can usually be addressed by replacing broken parts, such as pipes, washers, and mixers, rather than replacing the entire bath or shower.
