Bonjour!

There’s something special about European style. It’s a tasteful refinement and skilled use of colour and character that sets European design apart from the rest. A testament to this fabulous, French flair is the work of AMA Studio. French-born, Sydney-living Agathe Touguet is the face behind AMA Studio and we were so grateful to be able to discuss some of her recent designs with her.

Talk us through the project

This was a full renovation of the living, dining, and kitchen open plan area. The house is located in Berkeley Vale (NSW) on the Central Coast. Our clients purchased the home with the cottage in dire need of a renovation; the open plan living area felt dark, oppressing, and completely outdated. We reworked the floor plan of the space, changed pretty much everything from the flooring to the windows and wall finishes, and updated the kitchen and laundry. It is now a beautiful, warm, and sun-lit family area. The kitchen with its sage green cabinets, timber open shelves, and zellige tiles is definitely the heart of the home!

How would you describe your style?

I create interiors that are warm and relaxing using natural materials and neutral, earthy colour palettes. I want the spaces that I design to be approachable and feel lived in. My style is minimalist but never sterile, I believe homes should be a cosy haven where we can unwind at the end of the day - it should feel like your interior is giving you a big hug each time you get home!

Why opt for zellige tiles for this project?

I absolutely LOVE the Tiles of Ezra Zellige tiles! Their imperfection adds a lot of character, texture, and warmth to a space, which is very important for me. I hate kitchens that feel cold and sterile and these tiles definitely are not that! I often recommend Zellige tiles to my clients because of the minimal amount of grout required, which makes them easy to maintain.

About the
Professional

Tiles of Ezra is a bespoke tile studio specialising in handmade tiles from around the world. We pride ourselves on providing premium, high-quality Zellige that is 100% handmade by skilled artisans using age-old techniques handed down from generation to generation. We honour the sustainability of craftsmanship and support fair trade while bringing unique and authentic tile solutions into Australian design.

Unable to find a tile range that would facilitate many projects in Australia for her interior design for STUDIOEZRA, Georgia Ezra, director and creator of Tiles of Ezra, decided to take matters into her own hands. As an interior designer* whose signature style includes exotic cultural references, it was imperative to find an authentic, high-quality product.

Her search for unique, ethnic tiling, turned into a creative project and the foundation for Tiles of Ezra was born. A treasure hunter and market-maven at heart, Georgia searched the globe for inspiration and resources, creating partnerships and relationships with teams from Morocco,Vietnam and Mexico who specialise in producing authentic sustainable and handmade tile products.

*Georgia Completed a four-year Bachelor of Interior Architecture at UNSW in Sydney, finishing with first degree honours

TRADITIONAL AND HANDCRAFTED TILES WE LOVE

Merging Georgia’s experience in contemporary design and instinct for trend, with the group’s traditional handicraft abilities, proved a magical combination. The highly-skilled team of makers embarked on manufacturing a collection of unique modern designs in addition to many ethnic classics.

‘Tiles of Ezra’ is proud to share these designs with you because they are a labour of love not only for us but for our wonderful makers.

We have brought these tiles to Australia, in order to expand the platform of this style of interior fabrication. We hope that you too will reap the enjoyment of such vivacious, exotic creations within your own space.
