The Repose banner

Delve a little deeper into the beauty that is the Repose. We spoke with interior designer and creative director, Jemima Aldridge, about the story behind a humble worker's cottage turned artisan Air BnB.

A curation of the handmade and artisanal; welcome to the Repose. The brainchild of Ric & Moir Jones and Bede & Jemima Aldridge, co-founders of Saddler & Co, The Repose is a charming cottage nestled peacefully in Dubbo, NSW.

The Repose was originally built c. 1904 as a humble worker's cottage on the western plains. In contrast, today it serves as a mesmerizing, artisanal accommodation offering.

Paying ode to its' origins, the team maintained the high timber ceilings and original timber flooring, rejuvenated with a white lime finish.

The Repose bathroom has been designed around the original outhouse quarters a restored claw foot bath. We are elated that Jemima selected our handmade zellige tiles to bring a tasteful amount of imperfection to the space.

It is safe to say that the Tilesofezra tribe has fallen in love with every room in the house. With an abundance of immaculate attention to detail, an awareness of the history & story of the cottage, and a desire to create a true sanctuary of rest, the team behind The Repose has hit the nail on the head.

Peruse the house and you will find our Tilesofezra zellige scattered throughout the cottage.

Jemima opted for our zellige EZR1010 squares to bring quintessential charm to the bathroom and kitchen.

In terms of the style of the cottage, Jemima sought to weave elements of modern design side by side with heritage inspiration. Imperfect, artisan elements are showcased next to clean, simple lines. Jemima sourced brass, linen, antiques, and artisan suppliers to create a tangible experience of restrained design.

The team shares a common love for the Dutch heritage that influences our concepts of cosy living. The term “gezellig” is a state of being. It is a concept that encompasses the heart of Dutch culture and sums up the cosy home atmosphere of belonging, time spent with loved ones, and the general togetherness as people share in a common sense of well-being.

Jemima on dealing with Tilesofezra

We were on the hunt for tiles that would tell a story, and create a sense of connection to the heritage of the cottage. We already had reclaimed European tiles for the bathroom floors, and I went searching for artisan tiles to complement the earthy, imperfect design of the Repose bathroom. We discovered Tiles of Ezra online, and immediately sensed the purpose and authenticity of this brand. Working with Tiles of Ezra was a delightfully personal and seamless experience, we were grateful for such prompt service to a regional area. Amazing!

One word to describe the TilesofEzra product - Experiential.

About the
Professional

Tiles of Ezra is a bespoke tile studio specialising in handmade tiles from around the world. We pride ourselves on providing premium, high-quality Zellige that is 100% handmade by skilled artisans using age-old techniques handed down from generation to generation. We honour the sustainability of craftsmanship and support fair trade while bringing unique and authentic tile solutions into Australian design.

Unable to find a tile range that would facilitate many projects in Australia for her interior design for STUDIOEZRA, Georgia Ezra, director and creator of Tiles of Ezra, decided to take matters into her own hands. As an interior designer* whose signature style includes exotic cultural references, it was imperative to find an authentic, high-quality product.

Her search for unique, ethnic tiling, turned into a creative project and the foundation for Tiles of Ezra was born. A treasure hunter and market-maven at heart, Georgia searched the globe for inspiration and resources, creating partnerships and relationships with teams from Morocco,Vietnam and Mexico who specialise in producing authentic sustainable and handmade tile products.

*Georgia Completed a four-year Bachelor of Interior Architecture at UNSW in Sydney, finishing with first degree honours

TRADITIONAL AND HANDCRAFTED TILES WE LOVE

Merging Georgia’s experience in contemporary design and instinct for trend, with the group’s traditional handicraft abilities, proved a magical combination. The highly-skilled team of makers embarked on manufacturing a collection of unique modern designs in addition to many ethnic classics.

‘Tiles of Ezra’ is proud to share these designs with you because they are a labour of love not only for us but for our wonderful makers.

We have brought these tiles to Australia, in order to expand the platform of this style of interior fabrication. We hope that you too will reap the enjoyment of such vivacious, exotic creations within your own space.
