By Patterson Associates
Set on an expansive New Zealand coastal sheep and cattle station, Shepherds Cottage was originally an outlying workman’s hut built in 1878. Patterson Associates have sensitively restored the cottage at the centre of the Annandale Farm to offer a rural retreat for visitors wanting to experience the land and history of Annandale.
The cottage is lightly conserved in keeping with its historical working origins, where its historic structure was adapted to incorporate new services and earthquake strengthening. Alterations and additions sensitive to the character and age of the building allow for it to be used and enjoyed and its full economic potential realised.
Patterson Associates Limited is one of New Zealand’s leading architecture practices, founded in 1988 by NZIA Gold Medallist architect Andrew Patterson. In 2004 Davor Popadich and Andrew Mitchell joined the firm as directors, helping shape Patterson Associates into a multi award-winning studio with an international reputation.
