"SEASIDE TRANQUILITY - A HAVEN WITH A TWIST"
The design brief was to transform the property, located in a trendy coastal suburb of Auckland embracing a strong Balinese vibe.
"We would like a home that is calm, serene, comforting, and natural with warm earthy tones. A place to come and relax in, using simple elements like timber, stone, concrete, rattan in strategic places, a feature entrance way, all building on a Balinese essence".
Balinese design strongly believes in the power of nature, influenced by natural handcrafted textural materials like rattan and plethora of greenery.
Our vision was to draw into the theme with a simple modern twist. Although the predominant footprint of the home could not be varied much, we managed to add and orientate the spaces to dramatically enhance the property.

Locally made carved panels were designed to give the Batik block effect on the front door, metal cutout mesh panels instead of the traditional rattan broke the floor to ceiling cabinetry along with timber batten, Solid Oak timber flooring stained to match the colour palette, honed and sandblasted stone surfaces as strong elements in the hallway with edge lit shelving for artefacts, marble pebble mosaic sourced from Bali in the ensuite, grasscloth wallcoverings made with silky strands of abacá woven to create a beautiful distinct rich textured handcrafted material, solid wooden battens to ceilings, linen soft furnishings were all resources we tapped into to give a nod to the traditional Balinese theme.
The spaces have been deeply curated in its soul, making it refledive and sociable. The transition from living areas to the poolside, gliding across natural hardwood timber floors, beautifully honed stone and files leaves you with a sense of serenity, as you drift through the earthy palette throughout the property creating a spiritual energy... a truly "Balinese Oasis".
Mandala Design is an integrated Interior Design practice combining all facets of Design to create beautiful spaces people love in Hotel & Resorts, Commercial, High end residential and Retail sectors.
The origin of the word “Mandala” comes from ancient Sanskrit scriptures which means “circle”. Mandalas generally have one identifiable centre point, from which radiates an array of symbols, shapes and forms, that can be both geometric and organic.
Mandala Design has sprouted from similar roots and adopts a concentric pool of ideas, inspirations, desires, values and vision for its clients to transform an individual environment to a space that customers are enthralled with their experience.
The derivative here is that different segments of Interiors - Design, Collaboration, Procurement, Supply & Delivery, Project Management all integrate and revolve around a core like a Mandala to complete the vision. Each Mandala is unique and at our design practice we strive to create that unique Mandala / space for our clients.
