Contemporary home in Beechworth featuring locally sourced earth walls, sustainable design elements, and a strong connection to the landscape and views.
This new house was built on a greenfield site. The brief was for a warm, contemporary, home that could successfully be zoned. The structural earth walls were constructed from locally sourced earth, and provide a gravity, and warmth to the house. The scheme was developed and then evolved through a close working relationship with the owners. It was important to the owners that the house responded closely to the site, taking maximum opportunity of the views, and was complementary to the landscape design. Sustainable design was a priority through the maximisation of passive solar access, thermal mass, water harvesting and re-use, and the use of geothermal heating/cooling.
