Taking over a prime retail location on Marion Street in Wellington, Dan at Bicycle Junction needed some careful space planning and interior design to fit a cafe, bicycle store and repair store into a small space. Also being prime retail the fit-out needed to be special without a lot of cost.

Bicycle junction is careful to not position itself as being too masculine which is the norm in the cycling industry. We needed to make the space friendly, functional and welcoming to all through the storefront’s interior design.

The cafe and repair counters were placed along the back of the space with custom-designed patterned front panels inspired by 1950's prints. This really sets off the coffee shop and restaurant design vibe whilst maintaining a hard working effect that ensures work can still get done without concern from cycle repair customers that maybe they are in the wrong spot!

The cafe menu needed to be unique and we achieved this with a custom rail menu, timber rails with slide in lettering (watch this space if you like the look of this…). Flexible retail shelving was achieved with custom pegboard in two sizes, large peg holes for shelves and cabinets and smaller holes for hanging accessories.

Bright colours were used throughout the space to maintain a sense of fun and warmth and our mix and match menu holders do a great job of matching the vibrancy of the space . Bespoke furniture items gave flexibility to the rest of the retail space while maintaining a connection to the base build fit out.
