Opened in 2022, the Cawthron Institute's National Algae Research Centre extends the institute's ability to undertake wide-ranging research into micro and macro algae through design of highly specialised facilities.
The innovative ‘glasshouse’ laboratory provides a semi-controlled external environment with high sunlight access, critical for algae growth, and enables Cawthron’s specialist work in extracting high-value bioactive compounds from microalgae.
