Eastbourne Renovation

Website

Eastbourne builder Willie Davis has won the Registered Master Builders House of the Year Supreme Renovation of the Year, a gold award, the category win for the Bunnings Renovation $500,000 – $1 million award, and the Craftsmanship Award for a complex renovation project which has cleverly modernised an existing Eastbourne home.

The project involved the demolition of the home’s roof structure and most of its internal and external walls.

A creative, innovative, and consistent design was complemented by beautiful craftsmanship, resulting in a high-standard finish.

He says when problems happen, which is only natural, he prides himself on presenting the options including materials and costs, so his clients can make educated decisions on where to go and what to do.

The clients say since they had largely designed their renovation themselves, they wanted an enthusiastic builder who would truly invest his knowledge and craftsmanship in the project. Allowing them to be very hands-on, on a daily basis was also key. They found Willie to be clearly excited about the project and an extremely talented young builder.

They say he had a genuine enthusiasm for working closely with his clients throughout, and a reputation for professionalism.

Willie’s team was also fantastic, professional, enthusiastic, skilled, and taking great pride in the work they do.

Willie and his team worked enthusiastically with products that were new to them. These included the home’s random width and depth cedar cladding and engineered composite decking system, as well as a kitchen that arrived in pieces in crates from Denmark without any installation instructions.

“Quite frankly, it was fun to puzzle these things out together,” Robyn says. Willie Davis lives and breathes Eastbourne and since setting up his own business in 2011, has carved out a niche market with his local knowledge coming to the fore.

His high standards were set in stone from his training with award-winning local builder Simon Roche, and in 2005 Willie won the Registered Master Builders Carters 2005 Apprentice of the Year competition for the Wellington Region.

“That gave me a taste of success and made me realise my potential,” he says. Willie has held on to his reputation for quality building while growing his business over the past seven years and says now he is starting to get into more high specifi cation projects.

“The Eastbourne renovation was one of these, and we’ve recently completed a new build at Point Howard for Moore Architecture. We’re now working on another architecturally designed new build on the Eastbourne waterfront.

“We would never turn down the smaller work though, as it is where we started and continues to be a big focus for us.”
