Buchan are pleased to announce the opening of ‘The Crown Pub and Beer Garden’, a brand-new offer recently opened in the Five Mile precinct of Queenstown. Architecture and interiors were designed by our dedicated Buchan team. Buchan worked closely with both landlord and tenant on this bespoke concept for the area. Charlotte McLachlan (Senior Associate), worked closely with the client of ‘The Crown Pub and Beer Garden’, Pete Jefford, to bring his vision to life. Inspired by her international travels to some of the world’s greatest pubs, the interior design of the space evokes a traditional pub environment, whilst also linking its name ‘The Crown’, back to the neighbouring Crown Range of Central Otago, in the scenery behind. Situated just moments from Queenstown’s Airport, the ‘pub theme with a modern twist’ has been created, using materials and special features which reflect a traditional ‘cosy interior’ for those wintery days coupled with a refreshing summer beer garden experience, for when those long Otago summer afternoons pour sunlight into the courtyard.
Using contrasting materials and finishes, a variety of independent spaces were created to accommodate every occasion. A generous sized bar with a dominant bulkhead separated from the main bar by a large double sided fire, ‘crown’s the indoor space – with connections to other, more private areas, including; a dining space with traditional booths, an indoor/outdoor pavilion, louvred areas, dining areas both internal and external and a generously sized beer garden. An outdoor fireplace stands proudly in the garden, combined with a large screen for all entertainment needs. The curated garden nooks create social intimacy and interest and allow a variety of experiences.
To enhance the traditional pub theme, wall paneling and surface finishes were custom designed to spec, with carefully selected lighting, deliberately chosen to give that ‘old world charm’. The bespoke details create a unique venue, including material specifications of; brass, solid dark stained timber, stone and green leather. Timber-like porcelain floor tiles cover the main indoor areas, emulating a feeling of warmth – yet with a simple practicality about them. Brass detailing is applied to joinery and signage to reflect a look of ‘English’ distinction. Stone and concrete surfaces provide an ode to the harsh and rugged natural surroundings, along with plenty of hanging greenery. All furniture and joinery was custom designed and made in a variety of styles and heights to compliment the different options of seating, desired by the operator.
The space was designed to invite customers of all ages and the local community to socialize together, be entertained, and to enjoy live music and televised events. An all-weather kid’s play zone welcomes families to enjoy the space in a relaxed setting.
The pub is positioned to enjoy amazing views overlooking both The Remarkables and the Airport’s runways, long into the summer evenings. With an array of open and covered areas, ‘The Crown’ is to be enjoyed throughout all seasons.
