Designed to reflect the local coastal area and natural gumtrees on the property, Flinders House is a barn-style contemporary Australian home.
Nestled in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the home is surrounded by a variety of native and exotic flora that has been repeat planted to create privacy around the home. With such solitude, it was important to the owners to have a strong indoor-outdoor flow which allows them to enjoy the garden and space around them.
In seeking to reflect the natural surrounds of the home and be sustained through bushfire season, Silvertop Ash cladding was chosen for the exterior of the home. Coated in CUTEK® Extreme CD50 and tinted with CUTEK®’s Grey Mist Colourtone allowed the timber cladding to turn silver instantly, further reflecting the property’s many silver gumtrees. In a bid to add definition to the home entrances and window frames, CUTEK® Colourtone Black Ash was used and created a stunning yet subtle contrast to the grey of the cladding.
By using CUTEK® Extreme CD50 with CUTEK® Colourtones, the Silvertop Ash will not only be protected from UV rays but also less likely to cup, warp and split overtime. CUTEK® oils are designed to penetrate deeply into the timber and protect it from the inside out, minimising maintenance and reducing the need to replace cladding.
CUTEK® is a powerful wood protection system… but is also so much more than that. CUTEK® timber oils offer powerful protection while enhancing the natural beauty of timber. CUTEK® timber oils diffuse deeply into timber to repel moisture, maintain structural integrity and ensure the longest possible service life.
What sets CUTEK® oils apart is their ‘self-healing’ action. Once diffused, CUTEK® oils remain permanently mobile in the timber actively driving out moisture to minimise cupping, warping and splitting, even after being cut or perforated with fasteners. CUTEK® penetrating oils have a 30-year proven track record of standing up to our New Zealand climate and other harsh environments around the world.
