Creating permeable surfaces around buildings has become more and more important for architects, landscapers and council alike.
The need to reduce the demand on drainage systems and stop erosion during heavy rain has meant that Firth's EcoPave System has been met with approval from all these parties. However, the benefits of the system for those that actually walk on the pavers has also been huge as the Te Atatu Medical Centre has discovered. The Centre has a large carpark and although it is sloping there were still many places for the water to pool. With a number of elderly patients, the walk from the car to the reception during or after heavy rain was proving hazardous. Not only were the puddles difficult to navigate, the existing pavers became slippery when water lay on them for prolonged periods. However, the EcoPave System has stopped all that. Lesley Going Manager of the Te Atatu Medical Centre says "It's been fantastic. It's meant that even in pouring rain there is no collection of water so even though wet, there is still a stable surface for pedestrians to walk on. The whole system is doing its job."The Firth EcoPave system: good for the environment, good for architects and council, but best of all good for the people that use it.
