This project initially began as a renovation with the goal of uniting the existing North Avon Medical Centre with a neighboring Victorian villa. Following a series of design iterations and cost estimates, the prospect of constructing a completely new purpose-built medical centre emerged as a realistic option. This possibility could only be achieved with an extremely conservative budget and required creative cost-saving solutions, including the re-use of furniture and appliances from the existing medical centre and a series of strategic design decisions. The new medical centre and pharmacy occupy two simple gable forms connected by a highly transparent linkway which accommodates a bright entrance, reception and waiting area. Clad in cost-efficient materials, the design relies on an endearing building form at an approachable scale to create an understated street appeal without breaking the bank.
