The clients existing off-the-shelf kitchen looked dated and worn after just 6 years. The owners’ brief for a new kitchen called for a better connection with the outdoors and more storage. A new design was resolved that rotated the island toward the view and provided cabinetry along two walls to maximise storage.
This kitchen renovation project makes an immediate impact with its strong clean lines and powerful colour choices. In fact there is only one colour – Bokara grey, because the other ‘colour’ is in fact oak veneer. The timber and grey are perfect foils, creating a bold palette that is warm and inviting, elegant and contemporary.
The leathered finish of the black granite benchtops adds a textural element, while the mirror-effect of the black glass splash-back adds a further dimension. The oak overheads and island base balance the power of the grey, with the brass sink mixer and black/gold pendant lights adding pops of perfectly judged colour.
As always, it is not the individual materials that make this kitchen successful, but the skill of the designer to bring them together in harmony.
