The interior design brief was to create a home sophisticated in style and welcoming in nature. To establish a look and feel we drew inspiration from an area where the client was confident at expressing a contemporary and understated sense of style – the wardrobe. We asked, ‘if this home were something to wear, what would it be like?’ We then applied the characteristics of ‘smart casual’ to the home’s interior design. Qualities such as uncomplicated silhouettes, tailoring balanced with drape, confidence and delight, became our guide. The result is a home that is a true reflection of the people who live there.

JUDITH WATSON, HOME OWNER
“Over the last 12 months we have undergone renovations within our home and we asked Frances if she could be the interior designer for these. From the very first meeting with her, Frances did an excellent job of listening to what we wanted, steering and guiding us on both the big picture and every intricate detail, and yet always making us feel like we were very much a part of the process and yet able to own the results.
This was an extensive renovation and Frances’ commitment to the project never wavered. Her ideas are clever and she uses a mix of architectural design and interior decorating flair that make for a very exciting end product. She is innovative and creative, but not at the expense of what our particular place and style required. She pushed us outside of the box, and we trusted her to do so, knowing what we would get would be an outstanding outcome.
Frances places great store on communication and because of this, her relationships with all those involved in this project were excellent. She is open to discussion and is always prompt in response to any problems or queries. Frances strove to keep a difficult balance between aiming for quality of products, materials and design, and yet being conscious of our budget. She kept us up to date with this, using clear, regular spreadsheets, and she was consistently open to any discussion or clarification we required. Frances is passionate about her work and she has every right to be. She is a talented designer and we feel lucky that we had her lead us through this daunting task. We would certainly recommend her, wholeheartedly.”
I’m a fan of a crisp clean line as much as the next person but struggle to believe anyone feels comfortable in an environment dominated but the rigidity of man-made materials and linear forms. We need curves - and softness and texture.
Everyone loves a window seat (don't they?). This picks up on the handle design and walnut veneer used on the neighbouring kitchen plus the very high black toe-kick that helps this seat and the island feature float more lightly above the floor.⠀
Curves, softness and texture. It is what is in nature and it is the design of our own bodies. Our eyes like them and our hands are drawn to them. When we bring curves, arcs, circles or orbs into the spaces we inhabit they help us to feel comfortable and connected.
A place to drop your keys and stash your sound system. Combining open and closed storage plus horizontal surfaces at a user friendly heights gives a piece of custom joinery layers of value... then add a curve to visually connect with the kitchen and all the boxes are ticked.
