Stewart + Stewart's design for the conversion of a historic wool shed into private residences was heavily inspired by the client's rural property. The property is a working farm that had once transported bales of wool to the wool shed, and the designers wanted to highlight its significant structure. They did this by sourcing and incorporating salvage from the property, including Customised warehouse doors layered with sheep shed timbers, dark glass, and brass engraved wheels. They also reinstated a feature beam with working pulley at the entry. The resulting design is raw and uncompromised, with a palette of steel, industrial brackets, hand-made tiles, and walls rough-plastered with earth from the property. This is reflected in the use of unpolished brass, black glass, matte powdercoats, and dense slate.
