From a tired and rundown kitchen, cornered in an old-fashioned L-shape layout, to a light-filled multipurpose space for a family of 5.
The Client brief called for a contemporary open space with a scandi vibe, where family and friends could enjoy time together, but have space to spread out, and entertain more often. A scullery was a must to be able to hide any clutter.
Designed by Victoria Gaylard, this project is all about functionality and style. The kitchen stayed in the original position, but the space was opened up allowing for a larger kitchen, island seating, and a small but well-equipped scullery. A built-in bench seat with hidden drawers clearly defines the dining and the living areas with no further division. The scullery provides plenty of additional storage, features space for a wine fridge, and it is the perfect location for all the small appliances on the bench, ready for use but out of sight from the main kitchen. To allow more light into the kitchen the extractor was installed into a bulkhead above the window.
The white cabinetry, with negative handle details and integrated fridge for a streamlined look, is complemented by warm timber tones. The timber veneer battens to the back of the island are echoed in the bench seat and provide warmth to the space while the veining in the engineered stone adds a beautiful detail to the benchtops and splashback. The curve on the kitchen island softens the straight lines and is reflected in the bulkhead above, giving a relaxed and welcoming feel.
The result is a beautiful but highly functional space that our clients love to be in.
