Hobsonville Point, formerly the location of the Royal NZ Air Force's airfield, Hobsonville Airbase, is currently being redeveloped as a new suburb of Auckland.

The much-anticipated ferry service from Hobsonville Point to Auckland city was officially opened in 2013.

The service connects Hobsonville Point and Beach Haven with the Downtown Ferry Terminal and the Britomart transport hub, providing commuters with a convenient and pleasant alternative to the motorway.

The challenge was to capture this important alternative transport terminal in a way that expresses its design, functionality and uniqueness, all while much of the onshore hub was still being developed and not able to be included.

Many visits were necessary to create these panoramic images that especially comes alive in the evening glow.

About the
Professional

"Light is like music to my eyes."

Vaughan Scott is an award-winning cameraman, accomplished in all genre of the media and a professional photographer. His career spans more than 50 years and has taken him all over the world. With a 37-year television background that started in the black and white era, he has captured significant world events in some of the most challenging locations. His visual storytelling abilities are exceptional and have stood him in good stead operating his own business these past fourteen years.

“As a television cameraman, I travelled to over 50 countries capturing stories of major world events. I have experienced the slums of Kenya, the war-torn streets of Iraq, the devastating aftermath of both 911 and hurricane Katrina. I moved among the mourning crowds paying tribute to Princess Diana, the victorious crowds celebrating Obamas’ Presidential Election and a gun-fueled funeral parade through Gaza city. Life through the viewfinder has trained my eye to capture the perfect frame. What began as a teenage photographer developed into a lifelong passion.”
