Hursthouse, Hilltop

This Kiwi Bach is situated in the beautiful established Hilltop Suburb in Taupo takes in the extensive lake and mountain vista. The removal of the existing 1950 Bach was to be removed as existing material were not to building standards. The option of two outdoor living spaces gives the opportunity to follow the sun all day whether it is summer or winter. As you enter the home you immediately feel the warmth of the extensive use of timber used though out the home with Oak timber floorboards, light stained plywood walls and ceiling linings, Matai benchtops and trims to compliment the home. This is all set of with the clever random use of warm light splashes of colour, which contribute to the relaxed casual feel of the home. Built-in day beds provide wonderful storage and comfort nestled on each side of the log burning fire. Built-in bunks make for plenty of space for the whole family to enjoy giving an overall relaxed Bach/lodge feel well designed to meets all the homeowners traditional kiwi Bach feel. With the concrete slab insulated with polystyrene, every opportunity has been taken to maximise and up-spec the insulation including the use of double glazed thermal break aluminium joinery. The work process of water and sediment containment was in place throughout the project. The use of PV solar panels and a log fire for heating the energy consumption is kept to a minimum. Another way we used sustainability was to recycle as much possible on site from the use of steel to all cardboard and plastic, the package being delivered to a local recycler.
