Kent and Cambridge Terraces are some of Wellington’s busiest but most industrial-looking streets. Yet, despite its outward appearance, the terraces were once home to natural resources that were important for the wildlife and people of Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Beneath the paved road runs Waitangi Stream.
With increasing water problems plaguing the capital, Wellington Water suggests that daylighting the stream may be a potential solution to some of these issues, while also creating a fantastic green space in the middle of an urban metropolis. To visualise what this might look like, DCM Urban Design developed a series of illustrations showing the daylighted Waitangi Stream running through Kent Terrace.
As seen in the Dominion Post.
