A unique combination of Elderado Stone, clay bricks and copper make up this interesting executive home in Pukekohe.

Precision Builders owner John Cocks said his wife drew the original concept plan on the back of a napkin, before they handed it over to Presite Design - who turned into a reality.

Many people have already commented how this house would fit perfectly within the Queenstown Lakes landscape, with its variety of earthy cladding.

This is John and Leanne’s fifth family home, and averaging a new house build every 10 years, he admits to having his work cut out for him in later life. “I don’t want to do anymore when I’m 70,” he said.

The 350 sqm home features American Oak floors doors and architraves, a Garapa hardwood deck and a variety of windows on the South and East side for extra light.

It’s not only the mixture of natural cladding materials that make it stand out, but the variety of roofing levels, which also made for quite a labour-intensive job, John said.

Aspects of this house are similar to their last one - including the kitchen and dining area, but on a slightly larger scale - and they really feel like they have set the bar within the new subdivision.

“It’s an absolute original. We certainly haven’t scrimped,” John said.

The couple love large homes and are also keen gardeners, so will be looking forward to enhancing their property with lighting, sculptures and Proteas in the Spring.

Precision Builders can turn their hand to anything. From complex one off designs, home renovations to outdoor deck areas - give them a call today.

When Presite Design Ltd was handed a floor plan on a napkin, they had to find a way to make that work within the constraints of the site.

Designer Ryan McKay said the house had to be set low into the landscape so it wouldn’t block the neighbours view. “They wanted the house to look like it was broken into sections, and not just one continuous roof.” He said it was a pleasure to work alongside a builder that used quality products. “At the end of the day it adds so much more to the building project.”

Designing with clay brick is enjoying an international renaissance and we are reminded that bricks have always been the material of choice for the discerning. While many know that brick is a beautiful, authentic and timeless product, some may be unaware of just how advanced the brick industry is in green building design and sustainability.

The Brickery is the next chapter in the Austral Bricks and Monier Bricks joint venture. We’re proud to present a design-driven collection of clay bricks sourced from around the world.

Bricks are Individuals

Born in a kiln, our clay bricks are made from naturally occurring minerals. There will be variations from brick to brick and batch to batch. It is essential that current physical samples are viewed to get a true indication of colour and character, before making your final selection.

Embrace the colours, shapes, styles and textures of clay bricks as no two bricks are the same.

Specialised kiln settings create beautiful flares, bars and dramatic colour ranges within batches of clay bricks.

Colour and texture variation is inherent in the process and part of the appeal.

A vitreous coat opens up a world of colour possibilities.
