This stunning four-bedroom home won Gold in the 2018 Canterbury Master Builder awards. Rising out of the ashes of the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, the upper living level is wrapped in vertical stained cedar, contrasted with white Hardies Stria board. In comparison, the lower level, garage and plant room are encased in a simple white plaster which, alongside the original stone wall, anchor the building to the hill.
Commercially sized sliders, and the discreet use of steel supports optimise views of the city and mountains to the north and west, creating the perspective of space in the main entertaining zones. Further to the rear of the building, both roof height and door height revert to a more standard height, delivering the family more intimate, private spaces for everyday living.
Features such as the bespoke joinery in the kitchen and negative detailing in the skirting add luxury while also allowing the interior fittings and walls to float atop the flooring. This is a building where lightness interplays with strength and solidity. It surprises and delights with every detail.
