The monopitch roof and expressed rafters provide a fresh legible form, while accommodating the clients’ wish for upper floor bedroom quarters, as well as providing light and spatial interest to the previously downbeat entry.

Bringing visitors in through the side, allows light filled secondary living rooms. One a music room with LP and guitar collection, and the other a family and hangout room for the couple’s two boys.

The form of the roof is derived from the original pitch of the bungalow roof, so sits comfortably alongside the retained rear kitchen/ dining/ living rooms

Place and Process We aim to imbue our projects with a strong sense of place - identifying what is distinctive about a site and/or context and developing an architecture that engages with these qualities. During the design process, we aim to find an idea or theme, which captures the core elements of the project. We enjoy creating interior and exterior spaces which allow people to savour the ordinary activities of life and varying times of the day. Interiors & Landscaping Projects include careful design of all interiors, with our interest in design extending to every detail. Projects often include the design of cabinetry, furniture, lighting and landscapes. Our work Our work to date has comprised of new houses and renovations predominantly in Auckland, but extends to new houses across various scenic parts of New Zealand. Renovations have tended to fall into two categories - large old houses that usually result in an integrated aesthetic, and more modest bungalows and villas where a clear distinction is often made between the old and the new.
