Manaaki is Ockham’s 16th project, and the third we’ve created in partnership with Marutūāhu Iwi. Taking our commitment to lifestyle and community to new heights it features a pool, subtropical gardens, a ranch-sized residents’ lounge and an in-house café. As well as all of that we pushed the boat out further, adding four work-from-home spaces where our residents can enjoy the camaraderie of the office, without the commute.

With 210 across four buildings, Manaaki offers a range of 1, 1+study and 2-bedroom bases but also something new: a number of 3-bedroom apartments. The interiors have been designed with our experienced eye–quality fixtures and fittings that will last a long time and look classic.

Set beside a secret park, bordered by a no-exit cul-de-sac, Manaaki is 400m from Onehunga Mall, the wonderful main street that centres Auckland’s most characterful suburb. With the unmistakable grandeur that comes with being one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, leavened with a little light industrial grit, Onehunga has it all.

It was our aim to bring a mid-rise development with a gentle distinction to the area. Brick, our longstanding favoured material, was a natural go-to for Manaaki. Our architectural team began looking at glazed, glossy bricks and a pastel colour palette – baby blue, mint green, pink, lilac and lemon. The colours are reminiscent of the five fishing villages of the Cinque Terre on the Italian Riveria, but also a world heritage treasure closer to home. These were used here at home in Napier on their gorgeous art deco buildings following the 1931 earthquake.
