Mataka Station is a unique strip of undulating landform located in the Bay Of Islands NZ. Our Architecture seeks a second place standing in such a remote, rugged East Coast location with its empowering landform and natural character. This project is designed with an “Off the Grid” sustainable philosophy due to both its location and the client's future empathy for their land and the environment.

Tangaroa holds a significant placement at the heart of this home, deeply embedding this amazing family's love and connection with the ocean. Tangaroa is the very fabric of this living space. Being the Māori god of the sea and a son of Ranginui and Papatūānuku, Tangaroa symbolizes a profound bond between the sky, the earth, and the sea. This amazing carving isn't just a decorative piece; it's a central focal point that embodies their reverence for the ocean and the significant cultural heritage of this land. The careful placement of Tangaroa influences the home's design and enhances the energy, promoting a lifestyle that respects and integrates these natural elements. Our conscious decision to craft this home around Tangaroa permeates daily life, embraces the environment, and serves as a beautiful reminder of our connection to the natural and spiritual worlds, reinforcing identity and values in our everyday movements.

Jurado Architects Director Scott Jury has worked in the construction industry for 18 years, learning from early years while labouring on construction sites to later working through experience in comprehensive and detailed design of high end residential homes. Scott Jury graduated with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland, before formally training under Richard Priest and Sue Hillery. He is a Registered Architect under the NZRAB #4354 . Since forming Jurado Architects in 2006 the NZIA practice has grown on its reputable quality and professional service which continues to see both new and repeat clients enjoy standout architecture under Scott's guidance and the hard working team at Jurado Architects. We are a team of coastal loving beach enthusiasts, with a range of longboards, paddle boards and fishing equipment we enjoy a range of outdoor activities that compliment the coastal life we live and work in.
