Omarino: A stunning waterfront estate in the Bay of Islands, set amidst a spectacular natural landscape, currently undergoing an enhanced iteration of the existing and matured Homestead Estate.

Omarino is a luxury coastal homestead in the Bay of Islands, drawing inspiration from the traditional colonial weatherboard homes established by early settlers of the region. The architecture reflects the heritage of the original farmstead that once occupied the land, reinterpreting the character and presence of those early buildings through a contemporary lens.

Architecture designed by Jurado Architects was guided by a simple but evocative brief, to create a “grand old lady”of the landscape. The home is conceived as though it has always belonged to the site, with proportions, verandahs, roof forms, and detailing reminiscent of the classic New Zealand homestead.

The design embraces the enduring qualities of traditional colonial architecture, including generous verandahs, layered rooflines, and weatherboard cladding, all carefully composed to create a residence that feels both stately and welcoming. The building is positioned to take advantage of sweeping views across the surrounding rural landscape and out toward the waters of the Bay of Islands.

While rooted in historical influence, the home incorporates modern planning and contemporary construction techniques to provide comfort, durability, and flexibility for modern family living. Interior spaces flow effortlessly to outdoor verandahs and landscaped grounds, reinforcing the relaxed coastal lifestyle that defines the region.

Omarino is a contemporary interpretation of the classic New Zealand homestead, a residence that honours the architectural legacy of early settlers while establishing a timeless presence within the Bay of Islands landscape.
