By Andrew Meiring Architects
Maungauika House: Architect Andrew Meiring respectfully renovated this heritage-listed Devonport villa for a family with three teenage children returning from Hong Kong.
The project involved an extension to create a kitchen and sitting room area, seamlessly blending old and new elements. The use of stone, wood, glass, and concrete adds a playful touch to the Colonial-style building.
Materiality plays a crucial role in the design, with Auckland basalt used for the garage and pool walls, as well as for the walkway. The black shingles on the roof create a textural connection between the existing structure and the new additions. The restoration of the villa included the addition of two bathrooms, with the turret now housing an en suite bath, allowing the owners to admire the structure while they bathe.
Andrew Meiring Architects is a boutique Architectural firm located in Grey Lynn.
Whilst projects undertaken have been varied, our core focus is in residential architecture, delivering a diverse range of projects from alterations to new-built coastal and urban homes. In addition, we have successfully undertaken several bespoke retail and hospitality projects.
Our core philosophy is that Architecture should be a response rather than an imposition. Each project we undertake is driven by the unique site conditions and our client’s specific brief. We are passionate about the craft of constructing buildings and the honest expression of materials. We strive to create Architecture that is honest, beautiful, and timeless.
