Neighbourhood banner

Neighbourhood is a new, thoughtfully considered, responsibly designed community by Breathe and Openwork. Neighbourhood comprises of four distinct, mid-rise buildings — Garden View, Brick Lane, Fabric House and Quarters — arranged around a sublime, thoughtfully crafted courtyard by Openwork.

Inspired in name, form and materiality by the multi-layered industrial history of its Brunswick East location, each building is realised as a unique address, with a unique aesthetic and unique mix of elegant, generously sized residences.

Together, they form a human-scaled precinct uniquely focused on community and environmental stewardship; a like-minded place where best practice sustainable design initiatives will enable carbon-neutral living for generations to come.

Sustainability — in all its forms — has been an all-encompassing focus for Neighbourhood, influencing site selection at the outset, and virtually every decision thereafter: from maximising thermal and energy efficiency to waste minimisation; responsible sourcing of materials, to the conservation of natural resources; the creation of tranquil spaces for private enjoyment, to the integration of public spaces that encourage social interaction.

About the
Professional

Australia’s most awarded sustainable design firm, and its most dependable.

Our Approach

Breathe undertakes meaningful projects we can be proud of — those that align with our purpose and values.

Since we focus on maximising positive impact, many of our projects don’t fit the common definition of ‘architecture’.

We work to understand who we’re designing for. We strive to inspire, engage and support our clients and the broader communities we serve.

We prioritise social, environmental and economic sustainability in every project. We question the status quo to pursue outcomes that are informed by, and seek to better, those that came before.

Above all, we prioritise ethics along with aesthetics, and design without ego, to create the best outcomes for our clients and their communities.
