The luxurious Nixon House escapes the busy lifestyle of Auckland city to the rural township of Taupaki. This design is a contemporary take on the double gable form with varying materials and textures which are both locally and international sourced to create an elegant interpretation of a New Zealand classic. The black exterior façade juxtaposes the farmland backdrop making the house stand out within this landscape.
The programming of this design promotes exceptional indoor/outdoor circulation as well as creating access between the two gable forms. With the balance of profiled metal and cedar timber cladding the Nixon house also encourages sustainable design. The overall design hosts a 40 solar panel array to help decrease its electrical consumption and carbon footprint. As well as this array been functional it also provides a unique architectural feature that has been seamlessly incorporated into the design.
