This kitchen won the NKBA People’s Choice Award in 2014.

This is a very feminine kitchen and very much like its glamourous owner who accompanied me to the Awards Dinner wearing a stunning long pink dress and a matching pink fascinator adorning her hair.

We decided on a High Tea theme for the photoshoot – I had a baking frenzy and made the macarons coloured to match the flowers and a sponge cake with lashings of whipped cream. The photographer really enjoyed this job and ever since then he’s been mad on macarons and keeps reminding me to make some more for him.

The client wanted the scullery in her new home to be a second kitchen. Her aim was to have plenty of capacity to entertain large numbers of guests.

She supplied magazine pictures of traditional kitchens and circled the features that she wanted from each.

This posed a challenge to elegantly combine Classical Columns, Gothic Beading, Lattice Paneling and Corbels.

Another challenge was to position the large number of appliances and integrate some of these so that they wouldn’t dominate.

The initial conceptual house plans divided the allocated space for the kitchen and scullery almost in half. This made for a spacious scullery but the main kitchen was too compact to comfortably fit the larger appliances and the traditional features. The outer kitchen also looked proportionally too small next to the large dining/living area. At this early stage the wall could easily be moved to increase the size of the main kitchen. The client was also agreeable to moving the kitchen/scullery door from near the external wall closer to the back wall. This gave her closer access to her second ovens and also a wider, stand-alone display cabinet.

Supplying extra, highly detailed drawings, specifications and 3D renders for each of the traditional features was necessary to achieve the cohesive look to the overall design.

A curve to the island and rangehood was designed to link the kitchen with the curved bulkhead and tiled area.

The client chose the splashback to add her own individual style to her beautiful, bespoke kitchen.

About the

Hello, I’m Margaret Young and I am a Kitchen Designer with a passion for baking and cooking. I love all aspects of Kitchen Design from initial meeting of my clients, going through the processes and finally visiting them in their new kitchen.

2014 was a huge year for me. It marked the establishment of my own business as an independent Kitchen Designer. The first part of the year got off to a flying start – literally – I flew to Italy to attend Milan’s Eurocucina (Europe’s HUGE Biennial Kitchen expo). I as very fortunate to be invited by BLUM to visit their factories in the days prior to the Eurocucina Expo.  The trip was a fantastic experience to immerse myself in the latest design and technology.

2014 kept getting better! Both my kitchen and bathroom entries received NKBA (National Kitchen & Bathroom) Awards. The elaborate kitchen entry won the Peoples Choice Section and the Bathroom won the Southern Region and later went on to become the National Runner Bathroom Design of the Year!
