ArchiPro Project Summary - Puna Kaukau o Te Oko Horoi (Perry Aquatic Centre) is a contemporary aquatic facility completed in 2023 for Cambridge City Council, featuring a 25m pool, hydrotherapy pool, and outdoor splash-pad, designed to enhance community engagement and well-being.

Years in the making, Cambridge Community Pool, now known as Puna Kaukau o Te Oko Horoi - Perry Aquatic Centre, is a transformational project for the city of Cambridge.

The new complex is positioned along the southern end of the site, wrapping around and engaging with the existing 50m pool via soaring windows in the main pool hall. The building form, angular in nature with clean lines, comprises of 3 distinct volumes which are carefully composed to break down the mass of the building. This together with a simple material and colour palette allows the building to sit comfortably within its predominantly residential context

The new facility houses a 25m pool, hydrotherapy/programmes pool, toddlers pool, spa and sauna together with a new outdoor splash-pad for year-round use.

As the project lead, Architecture HDT is delighted to have been part of the wider construction team in bringing this fantastic facility to life for the community of Cambridge.

"A significant project for Cambridge, and more than 15 years in the making, this aquatic complex seamlessly integrates with the existing 50-metre pool and grounds, enveloping the southern edge of the site and offering connectivity through expansive windows in the main pool hall. The angular form, characterised by clean lines and three distinct volumes, mitigates visual bulk at the street, and blends harmoniously with the surrounding residential context. Internally, the pool hall is bathed in natural light from west and east-facing floor-to-ceiling glazing with pops of colour, reflective of Waipa, to enhance the user experience."
