Pocketspace was employed for this project specifically for our small space skills. The architect originally drew up the plans, and when we were hired, we needed to redraw the floor plans to allow for an office Apartment A level one, an extra bedroom Apartment B level one, and extra storage for all four apartments. Additionally we designed and specified all the kitchens, bathrooms and stairwell areas.

The stairwell accessed via Queen Street features exposed brick walls with steel framework and the up-lighting highlights the textural entrance wall. The oak flooring whilst costly, provided a sense of luxury and softened the raw industrial materials.

The kitchens use every square inch that was available. With high ceilings, we designed the cabinetry to go right to the top and extended the kitchen as much as we could to create a close relationship and flow with the kitchen and lounge. The kitchens all have LED strip lighting, stone tops and timber grain fronts.

The bathrooms are kept relatively neutral with Black tapware as a feature, and a mid grey tile to blend the polished concrete with the line of the tile. Wooden vanities warm up the space, whilst the horizontal white wall tiles make the small bathrooms appear to be larger than what they are.

The winner of this project really is the keeping with the buildings natural integrity; which was restored and added to with sliding warehouse doors, exposed and powder-coated steel bracing and the luxurious tones of the brick walls. We loved this project from the challenge of space planning, to specifying all the finishes to make these apartments come alive and thriving on Queen Street.
