Gray Brothers Builders of Dunedin – part of a legacy that goes back to the late 1800’s.

Paul McBeath and Mark Ward became the Co-Owners and Directors of Gray Brothers Builders of Dunedin in 2013 when they realised that by working together, they could continue the legacy of the Dunedin architecture community. They shared a passion for building Dunedin’s finest homes and for bringing young Dunedin builders into the trade. They wanted to pass on the traditional skills and strong work ethic that has made Dunedin the centre of excellence for fine designer homes.

You are now part of a story that actually started way back in the late-1800’s when a bustling Dunedin City was the centre of New Zealand’s financial and architectural industries. Dunedin is recognised as New Zealand’s leader for architecture, using artistry and world-class engineering skills to craft beautiful homes and commercial buildings on some of the steepest streets you can imagine. Over the years, Dunedin has created a strong culture and know-how of traditional craftsmanship – and canny engineering to deal with those hills!

These traditions have now been passed down to more than seven generations of Dunedin builders. Each generation brings their own ideas, combining traditional Dunedin building knowledge with the latest technologies, and building materials.

The original Gray Brothers built some of the finest homes you can find in Dunedin and around Otago. In 1974, Keith and Murray Gray started working together creating architecturally designed dream homes. But not just any home – homes that the Gray Brothers themselves would be proud to call their own.

Having grown up in Dunedin, Mark and Paul feel a real sense of pride and responsibility to continue in the footsteps of some of the great Dunedin builders. Together the Gray Brothers team have over 80 years of combined industry experience, so you can rest assured that your home build is safe in their hands.
